What is a crafting survey?
A crafting survey is an in-game map for a rich material deposit in a specific zone. Surveys can sometimes be awarded for completing crafting writs, according to a community explanation. The survey is not a general map to every resource node: it identifies a particular deposit location.
How to find a survey location
- Use the survey. The game displays a map of the corresponding zone with an X marking the survey site, according to ESO Support.
- Locate the X on your zone map. Use the map to work out where the marked area is in the world, then travel there.
- Search around the marked spot. If you have trouble locating the material nodes, ESO Support suggests trying Keen Eye or Set Destination as navigation aids.
If you cannot find the material nodes
The X identifies the area to search, but it may take some looking to spot the survey deposits in the world. Check that you are in the zone shown by the survey and use the marker to narrow your search. Keen Eye or Set Destination may help you navigate to the site; these are suggestions from ESO Support, not a guarantee that the nodes will be immediately visible.

Community discussions mention external maps, add-ons and apps as ways to identify survey sites. Their current availability and compatibility are not established here, so check that any tool you choose supports your game version before relying on it.
