What Riot acknowledged in patch 18.3
Riot’s patch 18.3 notes list a fix for “a crash related to native graphics API” and estimate that it affected roughly 1% of active TFT players. That figure is Riot’s estimate for active TFT players overall, not a reported rate for Android or iOS users.
The note does not identify the affected operating system, device models, or OS versions. It also does not offer a universal player-side workaround. So if TFT continues crashing on a particular phone, the patch note alone cannot identify the device-level cause.
Why does TFT keep crashing on Android?
Riot’s patch 18.2 notes, published September 9, 2026, describe Android thermal-throttling improvements: the game would make smarter decisions to help maintain device temperature. The notes do not connect that Android change to the native graphics API crash fixed in 18.3.

Riot also listed mobile memory-use tracking, practical available-memory measurement, fixes for some out-of-memory and watchdog interruptions, recurring unreported crashes, and runtime stability improvements. These are broader mobile stability changes—not a diagnosis of why a given Android device crashes.
Is TFT crashing on iOS?
Patch 18.2 also described an iOS rendering change: enabling the rendering hardware interface (RHI) thread for rendering calls to improve parallelism. Riot did not identify this as a fix for the native graphics API crash in patch 18.3, and the 18.3 note does not say that the crash was exclusive to iOS.

The official notes therefore establish separate Android and iOS optimization work, but they do not establish which platform experienced the 18.3 crash or whether one platform was more affected.

Could device requirements explain a continuing crash?
Riot’s Unreal migration FAQ, dated June 12, 2026, said mobile minimum requirements would remain broadly similar, with exceptions for iOS devices with 2 GB of memory and Android devices with 2 or 3 GB. The FAQ describes compatibility requirements; it does not establish that devices in those categories caused the 18.3 crash.

The FAQ said TFT would move from its shared Hextech engine to Unreal with Set 18, launched August 26, 2026, and that the existing mobile app would be replaced by the Unreal version. That context may matter when checking whether a device meets current requirements, but it is not proof of a specific crash cause.

Riot’s updates index displayed patch 18.4, dated October 6, 2026, as its latest update when checked October 8. The index does not state whether a later patch changed the status of the 18.3 crash fix. For an ongoing crash, the cited public notes do not settle an individual device’s cause or provide a universal fix; check Riot’s current patch and support information for newer guidance.
