“Half a remaster” is a useful way to describe Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4: it brings back recognizable parks and skating while reshaping the combined game around a more consistent two-minute goal structure. It is not an official genre label, and the result is not simply a frame-for-frame restoration. The changes are part of what makes this package work.
Is THPS 3 + 4 a remaster or a remake?
Activision describes THPS 3 + 4 as faithfully remade from the ground up. That points to a rebuilt game, not a technical remaster of the original releases. At the same time, the new game carries forward parks from both titles, alongside familiar skating and an updated roster and tricks. “Half a remaster” captures that balance: it preserves recognizable material but does not preserve every part of the original experience unchanged.
The game launched on July 11, 2025. Activision lists Iron Galaxy and Demonware as its studios. In its launch announcement, Xbox Wire editor-in-chief Joe Skrebels described it as “faithfully remade from the ground up,” with new skaters, parks, music, and more (Xbox Wire’s announcement).
What changed in THPS 3 + 4?
The two-minute format reshapes the goals
The clearest structural change is the timed format. Nintendo’s publisher-provided description says the game combines parks from both originals with “streamlined goals and the epic 2-minute format” (Nintendo’s product listing). Instead of treating the combined package as a recreation of each original game’s structure, this makes the goals fit a more consistent session length.

- Get hyped for the legendary franchise to return with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. Revamped with more skaters, new parks, gnarlier tricks, eardrum shattering music, plus a whole lot more.

- Drop in to new parks or tear it up across the timeless classics from both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 & Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, authentically remade in jaw dropping HD resolution with streamlined goals and the epic 2-minute format.
- Whether you’re a total casual or a grungy pro, the same smooth handling and simple-to-learn controls from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 will have you shredding like a Pro.
That is especially significant for THPS 4. Its place in this collection is shaped by the new game’s shared timed-goal approach rather than an unchanged return to its original structure. The available official descriptions establish that goals are streamlined and use the two-minute format; they do not specify how every individual level or objective compares with its original counterpart.
Returning parks, plus three new ones
The game includes parks from both THPS 3 and THPS 4, rebuilt for the new release, and adds three new parks. The combination gives returning players familiar places to revisit while offering new terrain to learn. Activision’s descriptions establish the additions but do not provide a complete track-by-track or level-by-level comparison with the originals (Activision’s official game page).

More than a straight return of skaters and music
The package updates the roster and tricks and adds skaters and music beyond the earlier soundtrack. That makes the game a continuation of the series’ recognizable skating identity, not a promise that every roster or track choice is preserved. A complete track-by-track soundtrack comparison is not established by the available official descriptions.

On consoles, yes, after the initial downloads and updates are handled. Activision says digital editions need internet to download the game and updates; physical-edition owners also need internet for updates and game content. Once set up, offline play does not require an internet connection. Online multiplayer does require internet and a platform gaming subscription. Why the “half a remaster” framing fits
The game’s appeal is the tension between familiarity and redesign. Returning parks and series staples give it a strong connection to THPS 3 and THPS 4; new parks, updated content, creation tools, and multiplayer broaden the package. The two-minute goal structure is the clearest departure, particularly for players expecting THPS 4’s original progression to return intact.
So “half a remaster” is best read as an editorial description, not a technical classification or a claim that every element is faithful. THPS 3 + 4 rebuilds recognizable material and then makes it serve a more uniform, session-based game. That is a meaningful change—and a compelling reason this release is more than a simple restoration.
