GamesRadar+’s March 11, 2026 ranking puts Battlefield: Bad Company 2 first, ahead of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 2. That is one outlet’s editorial order, not a universal verdict: the right Battlefield depends on whether you value a memorable campaign, team-focused multiplayer, historical settings, or environmental destruction most.
The ranking below follows GamesRadar+’s placements and reasons, with each game’s release year and the platforms named by the outlet. Platform lists describe the versions it identifies; they do not establish present-day store availability or online activity. Check a current store listing for the exact edition and platform before buying.
The 10 best Battlefield games, according to GamesRadar+
-
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (2010) — PC, PS3, Xbox 360
GamesRadar+ gives the top spot to this characterful entry, citing its comic writing, memorable squad and well-paced campaign. Its varied missions are paired with chaotic multiplayer, destruction, physics and sound design. The Vietnam expansion also gives multiplayer a distinct extension. It is the ranking’s strongest all-round choice if you want both a story campaign and large-scale online battles. GamesRadar+’s ranking
-
Battlefield 3 (2011) — PC, PS3, Xbox 360
In second place, Battlefield 3 stands out for multiplayer depth: varied weapons and vehicles, team-play rewards and a modern all-out-war identity. GamesRadar+ is less impressed by its campaign, describing it as linear, with weak AI and missions that can drag. Choose it for the multiplayer emphasis rather than expecting its story to be the main attraction. GamesRadar+’s ranking

-
Battlefield 2 (2005) — PC
GamesRadar+ ranks this PC release third as a turning point toward modern conflict and more mobile squad play. Squad leaders serve as spawn points, objectives are more specific, and class equipment supports coordinated movement. Its appeal is as much about the team systems it established as its setting. GamesRadar+’s ranking
-
Battlefield 1 (2016) — PC, PS4, Xbox One
At fourth, Battlefield 1 brings the series to World War I. GamesRadar+ praises the pacing and emotional impact of its separate War Stories, as well as the spectacle of its large-scale multiplayer. The outlet also notes that Behemoths can create competitive imbalance. It is the ranking’s clearest choice for a historical setting and a campaign told through multiple vignettes. Rank #2
Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection - PC- Immerse yourself in intense WWII flight action as you make your way through the ranks of an elite fighter squadron.
- Go deep behind enemy lines as you battle for victory in the European and Asian theaters of war.
- Take command of Allied troops during the hellish battles of WWII as you struggle to wrest victory from the hands of the Fascists.
- Wage war online from dark jungles to villages on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
- Master the weapons of warfare including pongee sticks and booby traps.
-
Battlefield 1942 (2002) — PC
The fifth-place original is the series’ formative entry in GamesRadar+’s view. It established a combination of classes, vehicles, open maps and team-focused modes, and the outlet highlights its historically notable 64-player battles. That figure describes the game’s battles, not a current online population. GamesRadar+’s ranking
-
Battlefield: Bad Company (2008) — PS3, Xbox 360
Ranked sixth, the first Bad Company introduced a more character-focused campaign and early Frostbite destruction to the series. GamesRadar+ identifies Gold Rush as its original multiplayer mode and says Conquest was added later. Its place here reflects the series’ shift toward destructible environments and a more personal campaign. GamesRadar+’s ranking

-
Battlefield 6 (2025) — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
GamesRadar+ places the 2025 release seventh, praising multiplayer refinements, familiar modes, destructible environments and a more purposeful class system; it describes the campaign as mixed. EA’s official Battlefield page features the game and links to a Buy Now page. That official listing is a useful place to start checking current platform and purchase options, though store availability can vary by region.
-
Battlefield 4 (2013) — PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
In eighth place, Battlefield 4 expands multiplayer options, brings 64-player matches to consoles and features Levolution, the outlet’s name for dramatic map changes. GamesRadar+ also points to launch bugs and server problems that hurt its reception. Its strengths are multiplayer variety and interactive maps; its original launch experience was troubled. GamesRadar+’s ranking
-
Battlefield 1943 (2009) — PS3, Xbox 360
This ninth-place download is the list’s focused multiplayer option. GamesRadar+ describes three classes, one mode, three maps and 24-player matches, and values the compact design and balance. The description is not a check of whether its online services are currently available, so verify service status if online play is the reason you are considering it. GamesRadar+’s ranking
-
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (2005) — PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360
The tenth entry is a console-focused spin-off. GamesRadar+ recalls its early console-online context, a campaign built around switching between soldiers, and 24-player Conquest and Capture the Flag rounds. It is a separate console take on Battlefield 2, not the PC game ranked third. GamesRadar+’s ranking

Which Battlefield should you play first?
Start with the feature you most want, rather than treating the ranking as a universal recommendation:
- For campaign and characters: Bad Company 2 is GamesRadar+’s top pick for its squad, comic writing and varied missions. Battlefield 1 is the alternative if you prefer separate historical campaign stories.
- For multiplayer depth and team play: GamesRadar+ emphasizes Battlefield 3 for its weapons, vehicles and team-play rewards; Battlefield 2 is notable for its squad-leader spawn system and coordinated objectives.
- For a historical setting: Choose between Battlefield 1’s World War I setting and Battlefield 1942’s World War II era. Battlefield 1943 is a smaller, multiplayer-focused World War II option in the ranking.
- For destruction and changing maps: The list traces different approaches, from early Frostbite destruction in Bad Company, to destruction and physics in Bad Company 2, Levolution in Battlefield 4, and destructible environments in Battlefield 6.
- For a console-specific classic: Bad Company and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat are listed for older consoles, while Battlefield 6 is listed for PC and current-generation consoles. Confirm the exact edition and platform on a current store page before purchase.
What this ranking leaves out
Battlefield Hardline is not in GamesRadar+’s top ten. The outlet’s framing identifies its police-versus-criminal premise as a different setting from the historical and military conflicts represented by the ranked games; its omission does not mean it is a poor fit for every player. EA’s official Battlefield page also features REDSEC, Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield V, alongside several games in this list. Their presence on that franchise page is not a ranking or a claim about current online populations.
How to read the placements
GamesRadar+’s March 11, 2026 list balances campaign character, multiplayer systems, setting, scale and map interaction. Those priorities do not have to match yours. A lower placement can still be the better starting point if its platform, era or multiplayer focus fits what you want. Historical player counts and descriptions in the ranking are features of those games, not evidence of how many people play them now. Read GamesRadar+’s full ranking for its complete rationale.
