That confirms the forecast in the headline, but the rebound was uneven: PC grew fastest, console grew modestly, and mobile remained the largest platform by revenue.
How much did the global games market grow in 2025?
Newzoo’s June 18, 2026 retrospective puts 2025 global games-market revenue at $201.6 billion, a 9.1% increase from 2024. This is a retrospective estimate from a commercial market-research firm, not a final audited accounting of every game-related business.
A separate Newzoo article published March 12, 2026 reported 7% year-over-year growth for the PC-and-console industry in 2025. That figure has a narrower platform scope and comes from a different analysis; it is not an alternative estimate of the all-platform 9.1% figure. Newzoo’s later retrospective revised its all-platform market total, so the $201.6 billion and 9.1% figures are the best fit for the global-market question.
For context beyond 2025, Newzoo forecasts a 5.1% compound annual growth rate from 2025 through 2028, reaching $234.4 billion in 2028. That is a projection, not a reported outcome.

Which parts of gaming grew most?
The platform figures show why a single industry-wide growth rate can conceal very different business conditions. Newzoo’s 2025 revenue estimates are:

PC: the fastest-growing platform
PC revenue rose 12.0% to $43.6 billion, the strongest annual PC growth rate in Newzoo’s dataset. Newzoo links the increase to a broad premium release slate across price points, including Battlefield 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Peak, Path of Exile 2 and ARC Raiders. Its explanation is not that one blockbuster alone carried the year, but that multiple releases contributed.
Console: growth, but at a slower pace
Console revenue increased 2.8% to $44.7 billion. Newzoo says full-game spending and multi-game subscriptions offset declines in downloadable content and microtransactions. That mix matters: a positive top-line result does not mean every console revenue stream expanded.

Mobile: the largest segment, with fewer downloads
Mobile remained the largest platform by revenue, at $113.3 billion, and grew 10.7%. Newzoo reports that revenue increased despite declining global download volumes, indicating stronger monetization rather than a broader expansion in downloads. It also notes rising user-acquisition costs, a headwind for companies trying to acquire players.

Newzoo reports year-over-year revenue growth in every region in 2025, but rates differed. Asia-Pacific represented 47% of global revenue, while the Middle East and Africa had the fastest growth rate.

All regional growth rates and the Asia-Pacific share are Newzoo’s 2025 figures, published June 18, 2026. North America grew, but its 5.7% increase was below the 9.1% global rate.
What does the growth say about the industry?
The figures support a recovery in market revenue, not a blanket recovery for everyone working in games. The Newzoo analyses cited here track market revenue and segment trends; they do not establish whether employment, studio profitability, or working conditions improved across the industry. Revenue can rise while particular studios or workers continue to face financial pressure.
