Xbox’s December 16, 2025 firmware update adds Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio support to the latest Xbox Wireless Headset, the model launched in October 2024. Owners can install it through the Xbox Accessories app on an Xbox console or a Windows 11 device. On compatible Windows 11 hardware, LE Audio is designed to reduce latency and improve power efficiency; some voice features have additional PC requirements.
What the update adds
The firmware update adds Bluetooth LE Audio to the latest Xbox Wireless Headset. Xbox says LE Audio can provide lower latency than Bluetooth Classic Audio and improve power efficiency. The update also enables super wideband stereo voice in supported configurations, as well as shared audio preview on select Windows 11 PCs.
These are Xbox’s descriptions of the features, not quantified test results. Its December announcement does not state a latency figure, a battery-life increase, or a percentage improvement. The headset’s launch-era specification of up to 20 hours of playtime is not a measurement of battery life after this firmware update.
Which headset gets the firmware
The update is for the latest Xbox Wireless Headset, launched in October 2024. Xbox’s announcement does not establish that earlier headset models are eligible, so owners should identify their model before assuming it will receive LE Audio support. The 2024 headset was advertised with Bluetooth 5.3; that hardware specification is distinct from the LE Audio support added by this firmware.

Xbox has not said owners need to buy new hardware to receive the update. Existing owners of the supported headset can install its firmware through Xbox Accessories.

Windows 11 requirements are feature-specific
Having Windows 11 alone does not guarantee access to every feature. LE Audio requires a Windows 11 device that supports LE Audio. Super wideband stereo voice has a further requirement: Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, plus audio-driver support from the PC manufacturer. Xbox described shared audio as a preview for Windows Insiders on select Windows 11 PCs, rather than a feature available on every Windows PC.
| Capability | What Xbox says is required or available |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth LE Audio | A Windows 11 device that supports LE Audio. |
| Super wideband stereo voice | Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and audio-driver support from the PC manufacturer. |
| Shared audio | Preview availability for Windows Insiders on select Windows 11 PCs, as described in Xbox’s December 2025 announcement. |
What later Xbox guidance says about ROG Xbox Ally
In an April 30, 2026 post, Xbox said compatible LE Audio on ROG Xbox Ally provides lower latency and improved battery life, and that the handheld supports super wideband stereo voice with compatible LE Audio headsets, including the Xbox Wireless Headset. This statement applies to that handheld and should not be read as a compatibility guarantee for all Windows 11 PCs.
