Epic’s published Fortnite support guidance does not list NVIDIA SLI as a supported feature. It tells players with multiple graphics adapters to make sure Fortnite uses the high-performance GPU. That supports a practical answer—don’t expect Fortnite to combine two SLI-linked cards for better performance—but it does not prove that every driver-level workaround is impossible.
What Epic’s guidance means for a PC with two GPUs
SLI is NVIDIA’s technology for using compatible GPUs together to render a 3D application. NVIDIA describes the Control Panel setting as enabling SLI GPUs to work together for rendering “when possible”; that general driver feature is not a Fortnite compatibility guarantee. See NVIDIA’s SLI and PhysX configuration reference.
Epic’s Fortnite support pages discuss choosing which graphics processor runs the game, not combining two cards. They do not publish a Fortnite-specific SLI compatibility matrix, supported GPU-pair list, or benchmark comparing one card with two SLI cards. So the supported conclusion is limited: Epic does not document SLI as a Fortnite feature, and its advice is to select the high-performance GPU. The available guidance does not settle every possible custom driver profile or workaround.
Make sure Fortnite is using the dedicated GPU
If your computer has both integrated graphics and a dedicated NVIDIA card, the first useful check is which processor Fortnite is using. Epic’s graphics troubleshooting guidance directs NVIDIA users to this path:
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D Settings, then Program Settings.
- Select Fortnite. If it is not listed, use the option to add the game.
- Set the preferred graphics processor to the high-performance NVIDIA processor, then apply the change.
Epic’s instruction is to ensure that Fortnite uses the high-performance GPU; its help page describes these NVIDIA Control Panel steps at How do I fix graphic issues for Fortnite? Epic also has a separate guide for selecting the primary display card when a computer has multiple graphics cards: How do I set my primary display video card? Choosing the right GPU is different from making Fortnite render across two cards with SLI.
What Fortnite’s GPU requirements do—and do not—say
Epic publishes different GPU examples for different PC quality targets. They are requirements guidance, not SLI recommendations or promises of a specific frame rate.

| Fortnite tier or feature | Epic’s stated GPU guidance | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended PC requirements | GTX 960, AMD R9 280, or equivalent DX11 GPU; 2 GB VRAM | An example for the recommended tier, not a two-card configuration. |
| Epic Quality Presets | RTX 3070, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or equivalent GPU; 8 GB VRAM or higher | An example for this higher visual-quality tier, not a claim that an RTX 3070 is the best current purchase or should be paired with another card. |

Epic’s Unreal Engine 4.27 documentation describes an integration for NVIDIA SLI Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR), in which GPUs take turns rendering frames. But the documentation says developers intending to use AFR need to work with NVIDIA to test and enable it for their games. It also cautions that forcing AFR through the NVIDIA Control Panel is not guaranteed to improve quality or performance. The page explains an engine capability for packaged games; it does not say Fortnite has enabled SLI. Read the Unreal Engine 4.27 SLI AFR documentation.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing.
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability. Compatibility: 348mm (13.7") length, 3.6 slots, 4.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Ray tracing is a separate feature
Fortnite’s PC ray-tracing guidance is about GPU capability, not multi-GPU rendering. Epic says ray tracing requires an RTX 2060-or-better GPU and DirectX 12, and warns that enabling ray tracing significantly reduces frame rates. Ray-tracing support therefore does not imply SLI support. Details are in Epic’s Fortnite ray-tracing support guidance.
