What to do when the Reaper sees you
The safest general response is to prioritize escape over fighting. The community wiki’s account says the Reaper roams until it spots a player, then gives chase and attacks repeatedly. Move behind cover, cut its line of sight, and continue into another room rather than staying nearby to see whether it has stopped.
Keep enough stamina to make that escape. The wiki warns that the Reaper’s persistence becomes especially dangerous if you run out while it is pursuing you. Avoid spending stamina unnecessarily before entering areas where you might encounter it.
Keep the chase away from loot
The Reaper can damage valuables while pursuing a player, according to the community guide. When possible, keep carts and fragile loot out of the route you expect to use as an escape path. If teammates are nearby, tell them where the chase is moving so they can avoid putting valuables in its way.

Community-reported tactics, with caveats
Attacking from the side
The wiki recommends approaching from the sides because the Reaper may knock a weapon out of your hands. This is not a verified safe opening: closing distance can expose you to its swings, and the guide does not establish that a side attack will reliably stop the chase. Treat it as a risky option rather than your default escape plan.
Using a Clown Doll
The community guide mentions the Clown Doll as an explosive item that can be used against the Reaper. It does not establish a guaranteed result or a universally safe way to use it, so do not rely on it when a clear escape route is available.

Crouching on a table
The wiki reports that the Reaper cannot spot a player crouching on top of a table. There is no official or version-specific confirmation for this tactic in the available information. If you try it, keep an escape route in mind rather than assuming the table will protect you.
