Answers for Tuesday, March 24
Spoilers: the four categories and all 16 words are listed below.
Yellow — DESPICABLE
BASE, LOW, MEAN, VILE
Each word can describe something morally low or contemptible.
#1 Best Overall
Green — FEATURES OF A WEDDING
CAKE, KISS, RING, VOW
Blue — KINDS OF TRUCKS
DUMP, FIRE, FOOD, TOW
Purple — HETERONYMS
BOW, ROW, SOW, WIND
Each spelling has meanings that are pronounced differently: a bow may be a tied knot or the act of bending; a row may be a line or an argument; sow may mean planting seeds or an adult female pig; and wind may mean moving air or the act of turning or coiling something.
How the trickiest words fit
The purple group relies on pronunciation changes, rather than a shared subject. Read each word in its different senses: a person can bow or tie a bow; a row of objects differs from a quarrel; to sow seeds differs from a female pig; and air that is wind differs from winding a cord. Two other board words can distract: TOW is also the act of pulling something behind, while BASE can mean morally low, but here they belong to the truck and despicable groups, respectively.
