Answers for November 19
Spoilers below: These are the four completed groups reported by TechRadar and Forbes. Both guides agree on the answers.
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | STOCKY | HUSKY, SOLID, SQUAT, THICK |
| Green | STEER | DIRECT, GUIDE, LEAD, SHEPHERD |
| Blue | Second words in Poe stories, after “The” | CASK, FALL, MASQUE, PIT |
| Purple | ORGAN PLUS A LETTER | COLONY, HEARTH, LUNGE, SKINK |
Why the Poe words fit
The blue group points to The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Pit and the Pendulum. Each tile is the word immediately following “The” in one of those story titles.

Why the purple group fits
Add one letter to an organ name and rearrange the letters: COLONY comes from COLON, HEARTH from HEART, LUNGE from LUNG, and SKINK from SKIN. The result is a set of words that can distract from the less obvious wordplay.
How Connections works
The New York Times describes Connections as a daily puzzle in which players sort 16 words into four themed groups. Groups are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest. The NYT notes that each puzzle has one solution, even though words can appear to fit multiple categories. NYT Connections Help
The game is free on NYT-supported platforms, and a new puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. To avoid a premature solve, look for a set of four that shares a precise relationship rather than relying on a loose association.

The NYT Help Center says All Access and Games subscribers can use the archive, which begins with puzzles from June 12, 2023. An NYT account is required to retain archived progress and history. Archive play affects Connections stats but not streaks, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed. Check the current Help Center terms for eligibility details.

For today’s board, the 16 tiles reported by TechRadar are SQUAT, SHEPHERD, PIT, FALL, LUNGE, LEAD, SKINK, SOLID, HUSKY, CASK, DIRECT, COLONY, GUIDE, THICK, MASQUE, and HEARTH. Forbes’s word-bank list contains a conflicting “THINK,” but its completed purple answer uses SKINK; TechRadar also lists SKINK. The answer table therefore follows the tile reported by both completed solutions.
