Full answers for September 12, 2025

Spoilers below: These are the four complete word groups for puzzle #824.

  • Yellow — Entreaty: APPEAL, BID, CALL, PETITION.
  • Green — Contact info: ADDRESS, EMAIL, NAME, NUMBER.
  • Blue — Kinds of camera lenses: FISHEYE, MACRO, TELEPHOTO, ZOOM.
  • Purple — Bodies of water plus a starting letter: DRIVER, EBAY, FINLET, FLAKE.

Why the purple group fits

Each word adds a starting letter to a body of water: river becomes DRIVER, bay becomes EBAY, inlet becomes FINLET, and lake becomes FLAKE.

Why Connections can be tricky

Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four. The New York Times Help Center explains that each puzzle has one solution and may include words that seem to fit multiple categories. That overlap is part of the challenge: a word can look plausible in more than one group even though only one final arrangement works.

Playing the daily puzzle or finding an older one

The NYT Help Center says the daily Connections game is released at midnight in the player’s timezone and is available on the NYT website and in its apps. For past puzzles, the Connections archive goes back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers, according to the Help Center. Archive play affects game statistics but not streaks, and a completed archived puzzle cannot be replayed. Access details can change, so check the Help Center if you are returning to the archive later.
