  • Yellow — INTENTION: AIM, GOAL, OBJECT, POINT.
  • Green — MEASURING DEVICES: CLOCK, COMPASS, RULER, SCALE.
  • Blue — PARTS OF A FLIGHT: CLIMB, TAKEOFF, TAXI, TOUCHDOWN.
  • Purple — BIKE ACCESSORIES: BASKET, BELL, RACK, REFLECTOR.

The red herring to watch for

GOAL, TOUCHDOWN, BASKET, and POINT can all suggest sports, making them tempting to group together. That is not the intended connection: GOAL and POINT belong with AIM and OBJECT under intention, while TOUCHDOWN joins the flight stages. Forbes also flags this misleading sports association in its guide to the puzzle: Forbes’ Connections #933 guide.

How Connections works

Each daily board has 16 words to sort into four groups of four based on a shared connection, according to the NYT Help Center. The color labels indicate intended difficulty: yellow is easiest and purple is trickiest. A new puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s timezone.

Playing an older puzzle

The NYT Help Center says the Connections archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Archive play affects Connections statistics but not streaks, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed. Availability and archive behavior can change, so check the official Connections game or Help Center for current details.
