If Titanfall 2 crashes when you select multiplayer, that symptom alone does not show that the “simple exploit” Respawn discussed in 2021 is still active. Respawn said it shipped an update addressing that specific game-crashing exploit and considered the incident closed. Similar crashes have been reported since, but the available accounts do not establish a single cause for crashes happening today.
What Respawn meant by “simple exploit”
On September 9, 2021, Respawn described the issue as an exploit that could be used to crash Titanfall 2 games. In a contemporaneous report, PC Gamer quoted Respawn saying its engineers believed they were dealing with “a simple exploit that can be used to crash games.” Respawn also said it did not believe there were more serious risks to affected players or their machines. Did Respawn fix the 2021 exploit?
On September 10, 2021, an EA community moderator reproduced Respawn’s follow-up: “Our team has shipped an update to address the game-crashing exploit. We found no evidence of any more serious vulnerabilities. We’ll keep an eye out for further issues but consider this one to be closed.” This establishes what Respawn said about that incident; it does not establish that every later multiplayer crash has the same cause or that the game can never crash again. Why a multiplayer crash today does not identify the cause
In February 2022, a Reddit user reported that the campaign worked but the game crashed when starting multiplayer. Replies raised the Advocate Network and Northstar, but the discussion does not demonstrate that the 2021 exploit caused that crash. The available accounts do not establish how often this happens now, whether the cause differs by platform, or whether current reports share one explanation. A crash on selecting multiplayer is a symptom, not a security diagnosis.

An EA community post suggests that PC players experiencing crashes associated with the Advocate Network try the launch option +communities_enabled 0. This is an older user-contributed troubleshooting suggestion, not an official or guaranteed fix. The post does not establish that it works with every PC launcher or current version, and it should not be treated as a security measure or as a way to undo or replace Respawn’s 2021 update.
