For general multiplayer use, Tone is the strongest all-round pick in this editorial ranking, while Monarch has the highest dependence on surviving long enough to build power. This is a practical assessment, not an official tier list, competitive consensus, or measured win-rate ranking.
The scope is the seven multiplayer Titan loadouts: Ion, Scorch, Northstar, Ronin, Tone, Legion, and Monarch. The campaign’s Vanguard Titan BT-7274 and Titans piloted by antagonists are outside this ranking. The order assumes ordinary multiplayer matches, a solo or unspecified team, and usefulness across maps and modes. It weighs reliable damage, survivability and defensive options, mobility, ease of contributing, and dependence on range or team support. A map- or mode-specific list could look different.

How to read this ranking
Titanfall 2 gives each multiplayer Titan a distinct kit and Core, rather than offering seven versions of the same role. Xbox Wire’s 2016 preview described the showcased Ion and Scorch as having “very different play styles and strengths,” making the game feel “more like a class-based shooter than a traditional FPS with mechs.” That captures the roster’s design intent, but it is not evidence of present-day balance or a competitive ordering.
The ranking below is an editorial all-rounder judgment. It favors a Titan that can contribute in varied situations without requiring a particular map, a coordinated team, or a long setup. The available sources do not establish current matchup win rates, tournament usage, or patch-by-patch balance data, so no rank should be read as a universal verdict.
#1 Best Overall
- Advanced, Action-Packed Gameplay – Whether fighting as a Pilot, the dominant force on The Frontier, or as a Titan, 20-foot tall war machines, Titanfall 2 provides an incredibly fun, fluid, and thrilling combat experience that is unmatched.
- Captivating Single Player Campaign – Step on to The Frontier as a Militia rifleman with aspirations of becoming a Pilot. Stranded behind enemy lines, and against overwhelming odds, you must team up with a veteran Vanguard-class Titan and uphold a mission you were never meant to carry out.
- Deeper Multiplayer Action – With six brand-new Titans, a host of deadly new Pilot abilities, an expanded customization system, new modes and much more, Titanfall 2 gives players the deeper Multiplayer experience they have been asking for.
- Play with Friends, or Make New Ones – The social tissue of Titanfall 2, Networks makes it fast and easy to play with friends old and new. Whether Social or Competitive, players will be able to create and join a variety of Networks that best suit their play styles and preferences.
The Titans, ranked
1. Tone
Tone takes the top spot for its approachable target-tracking and guided-rocket identity. Those tools suggest a straightforward way to contribute damage without making the whole role depend on precision at long range or getting close enough to commit to a risky engagement. Its Salvo Core fits that offensive profile. This is a general-use pick, not a claim that Tone wins every matchup or mode.
2. Ion
Ion’s energy-based identity offers a flexible balance of offense and defense, making it a strong option when a match calls for adapting rather than committing to one narrow range. Its Laser Core is the named Core associated with the loadout. The available evidence does not establish enough detail about energy management to support granular advice, so Ion’s place here rests on its broad role rather than assumptions about specific resource tactics.
Rank #2
3. Legion
Legion’s sustained heavy-gun identity makes it a natural choice for players who want to keep pressure on opponents. Smart Core reinforces that heavy-offense role. Its all-rounder position is held back by the general trade-off of a more specialized, sustained-fire approach: it may be less convenient when the fight or map demands rapid repositioning than a more mobile pick.
4. Northstar
Northstar is the roster’s precision and ranged specialist, with Flight Core as its named Core. At a suitable distance, that identity can be valuable; it should not be mistaken for being best on every open map. Range only helps when there is room to use it without becoming an easy target, and the value of a ranged role can depend on map geometry and team context.

Rank #3

5. Scorch
Scorch is built around fire and area control. Xbox Wire’s preview specifically highlighted incendiary rounds and a flamethrower, while the roster reference names Flame Core. That kit gives Scorch a distinct role, but area control is more situational than a broadly useful answer to every engagement: its value depends on where opponents can move and how the fight develops.
6. Ronin
Ronin combines close-range mobility with a sword identity, represented by Sword Core. It can offer burst engagement potential, but closing distance and staying exposed carry risk. That makes Ronin less forgiving as an all-round recommendation than Titans whose role can contribute without committing to a close-range fight.
7. Monarch
Monarch’s Upgrade Core and upgrade-over-time identity make its value unusually dependent on match progression. Its potential can rise if it survives long enough to build upgrades; before that, its all-round value is less assured. That dependence on accumulating power puts it last for a general-use ranking, though a late-match, fully upgraded Monarch is a different case from one still building toward that state.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Titan should you choose?
- For a straightforward general-purpose option: Start with Tone.
- For a flexible offense-and-defense role: Consider Ion.
- For sustained heavy-gun pressure: Consider Legion.
- For precision at range: Consider Northstar, while accounting for exposure and team context.
- For fire-based area control: Consider Scorch when the fight’s position makes that role useful.
- For close-range mobility and burst engagement: Consider Ronin, but be deliberate about exposure.
- For an upgrade-dependent progression: Consider Monarch if you can survive long enough to build its potential.
Why another tier list may rank them differently
A Titan’s value changes with map layout, mode, engagement distance, player familiarity, and team support. A close-range role may be more useful where engagements naturally compress; a ranged specialist needs opportunities to use distance without being exposed. Monarch’s relative value also changes between its early state and a later, upgraded one. Since the available sources do not provide current mode-specific performance data or a verified competitive consensus, a different ordering is a matter of criteria and context—not proof that one list is an objective balance chart.
