Answers for Saturday, November 8, 2025

Spoilers below. NYT Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four, with colors indicating the group difficulty from yellow (easiest) to purple (trickiest). The New York Times explains that possible overlaps are part of the puzzle’s design in its Connections help guide.

Color Category Words
Yellow BLOCK, AS AN OPENING CLOSE, PLUG, SEAL, STOP
Green PUT FORWARD, AS AN ANNOUNCEMENT DELIVER, GIVE, PRESENT, PRONOUNCE
Blue KINDS OF LANGUAGE BODY, PROGRAMMING, SIGN, SPOKEN
Purple WORDS AFTER “I” BEAN, CHING, ROBOT, SPY

How the groups fit together

Yellow: BLOCK, AS AN OPENING

Each verb can describe stopping an opening: close, plug, seal, or stop it.

Green: PUT FORWARD, AS AN ANNOUNCEMENT

Deliver, give, present, and pronounce can all describe putting something forward as an announcement.

Blue: KINDS OF LANGUAGE

Body language, programming language, sign language, and spoken language make up the set.

Purple: WORDS AFTER “I”

Add “I” before each word to make I-bean, I Ching, iRobot, and I Spy.

A practical solve path

The opening-blocking verbs are a direct semantic match, as are the announcement verbs, so those are useful groups to test first. The remaining words split between a literal category—kinds of language—and phrase completion after the letter “I.” The New York Times notes that overlap is intentional, so look for a precise shared relationship rather than a loose association.

When this puzzle appears and where to discuss it

Connections releases at midnight in each player’s local timezone, so the date attached to a puzzle can vary by location and publication time. The NYT Help Center says the archive goes back to June 12, 2023, for All Access and Games subscribers; see its guide to playing Connections. For post-solve discussion, Connections Companion lets readers browse hints, comments, and difficulty scores, though comments may reveal answers; details are in the Connections Companion guide.
