Not as an official Google feature. Hackster.io reported an experiment by Pedro Webber that displayed a playable version of Doom in the Google Search bar using ASCII characters. The report says it supported sound and game controllers, though its frame rate was low and the method was not fully explained.
Can you play Doom in Google Search?
Hackster.io’s Nick Bild reported that Pedro Webber made a playable Doom experiment appear in the Google Search bar. The characters making up the display were ASCII text, rather than a conventional game window. The report describes Webber’s project; it does not describe a feature built or endorsed by Google. How did the experiment work?
According to Bild, Webber adapted a Python port of Doom to present the game as ASCII characters in the search bar. That is the extent of the technical explanation in the report: it does not fully detail the method, identify a specific port, or provide instructions that would let readers reproduce the experiment reliably.
What did the report say about playing it?
- Frame rate: Bild described it as low, without giving a measured rate.
- Sound: The report says sound was supported.
- Controllers: The report also says game controllers were supported, but names no model or device-specific compatibility.
These are features reported by Hackster.io, not independently documented test results. The article does not establish which browsers, computers, or controllers work with the experiment.

Can you try it yourself?
The report is a description of an experiment, not a complete tutorial. Because it says the method was not fully detailed, it is not enough to establish a dependable set of steps for running the game in Search. It also offers no basis for assuming that the Search bar generally runs games or that this project remains available.
