Yes—you can queue alone in ARC Raiders, but that does not mean every opponent will also be solo or that other Raiders cannot attack you. Embark says matchmaking makes similar encounters more likely, not guaranteed. A safer solo run depends on choosing a limited objective, knowing how you will extract, and treating noise and exposure as costs.
What solo matchmaking does—and does not—guarantee
Select a map while alone to start a solo run, but do not treat that as a solo-only lobby. Embark’s May 20, 2026 explanation says matchmaking considers several factors, including recent playstyle and squad-size fairness. Its stated rule is: “Similarity is more likely, not guaranteed.” There are no PvE-only lobbies where other Raiders can never attack.
Playstyle is a gradual estimate, not a simple friendly-or-aggressive label. Embark says starting fights is treated differently from defending yourself, and low-activity rounds count less. One isolated encounter should not be assumed to determine your future matchmaking.
Plan the objective and extraction before you roam
Maps have distinct resource areas, and your spawn is random. Once you know where you landed, choose a modest objective and identify a plausible way out before moving deep into a loot area. Maps have multiple extraction types, including Raider Hatches, Airshafts, Subway Tunnels, and Cargo Elevators; check the current map and its requirements in game rather than relying on an old route.

Raider Hatches require a key, while regular extraction points can create noise and exposure. The right choice depends on what you have, where you are, and how much attention you can risk—not simply which exit looks closest.
Match your loadout to the run
| Choice | Useful for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Free Loadout | Learning a route or gathering low-stakes resources without risking valuable gear. | Limited inventory and no Safe Pocket, according to Epic Games Store’s October 29, 2025 guide. |
| Custom gear | A run where you want more capacity or have deliberately prepared for a likely fight. | More valuable equipment is exposed if the run goes badly. Exact inventory capacity and Safe Pocket details depend on the chosen gear; check the current loadout screen. |
A Free Loadout is not a no-risk run: you still risk losing what you collect, and its smaller inventory can limit what you bring back. Use it when the goal is practice or modest gathering, not when your plan depends on carrying specialized gear.

Treat noise as a decision
Searching most containers takes several seconds and makes noise. Activating regular extraction points can also sound an alarm that draws human and ARC enemies. Before looting or starting an exit, consider what could hear you and whether you have cover or a retreat path.
- Avoid opening several containers in exposed ground when one quick search would meet your objective.
- Pause and listen after a noisy action instead of assuming the area is still clear.
- Expect an extraction activation to change the situation; do not count on a quiet approach staying quiet once the exit is triggered.
Keep stamina for the dangerous part
Epic’s October 2025 guide describes sprinting as stamina-consuming, while standing, walking, or crouching restores stamina. It also describes sliding after a sprint and holstering a weapon as ways to move faster. The solo principle is straightforward: do not drain stamina just to cross ordinary ground. Keep some in reserve for a hazardous crossing or a retreat, and verify movement details in the current build if a patch has changed them.

Choose fights with ARC deliberately
A player who is spotted may alert nearby ARC, so a fight can create a second threat even if no other Raider is present. If you decide a machine must be dealt with, match armor penetration and ammunition to that target rather than picking a weapon by name alone.
Epic’s October 2025 guide cited Ferro and Hullcracker as stronger machine-destruction examples, and Kettle, Stitcher, and Bobcat as more difficult choices for that job. Treat those as dated examples, not permanent rankings: weapon balance and availability can change, so check current stats and ammunition before committing.

When to choose Solo vs Squads
Solo vs Squads is an opt-in challenge, not a shortcut to safer solo play. Embark’s January 27, 2026 Headwinds 1.13.0 notes introduced the toggle for solo Raiders level 40 and above, placing them in the Squads queue. The notes frame it for experienced, highly skilled players who enjoy PvP and state a 20% bonus XP reward whether the run ends in successful extraction or defeat.
Because the eligibility and reward come from those dated patch notes, confirm the option and its current terms in game before choosing it. If you want a lower-pressure run, use the standard solo queue instead.

Reduce tracking risk if you stream
Embark’s support article, last updated September 7, 2026, recommends enabling Matchmaking Privacy before starting matchmaking. If you are in a party, the leader’s setting applies to everyone. The same guidance recommends covering the raid timer, using a holding screen while queued, keeping your selected map private until Topside, and adding stream delay if your platform supports it. Together, these steps make it harder for viewers to infer your timing or destination.
