Defeat a Bourgeon to get Bourgeon Skin. An optional Bourgeon in Flying Waters is the earliest reported source. Take the skin to the small Bourgeon in the optional area west of Flying Waters, then leave and return to advance its request.
Where to find Bourgeon Skin
Bourgeon Skin is a drop from Bourgeon enemies. The optional Bourgeon encounter in Flying Waters is described as the earliest opportunity to obtain one. You do not need a particular named Bourgeon for the item; defeating a Bourgeon is the key. Gameranx’s guide identifies the Flying Waters encounter as an early source. A community wiki also lists other Bourgeon encounters, though it is not an official source: Bourgeon Skin.

How to complete The Small Bourgeon’s request

Find and defeat the optional Bourgeon in Flying Waters to obtain Bourgeon Skin. Exact directions to the encounter vary among walkthroughs, so use the area map rather than relying on a single turn-by-turn route.

Travel to The Small Bourgeon, the optional area west of Flying Waters. Speak with the small white Nevron and give it the skin when prompted. Push Square’s area guide also notes an optional journal collectible behind the Bourgeon; collecting it is not required for this request.

Leave The Small Bourgeon and re-enter, then speak to the Nevron again. Guides differ on whether re-entry alone is enough or whether you should first make progress elsewhere. If it has not grown after you return, continue exploring or advancing the story and check again; no fixed wait time is established.
What to do after the Bourgeon grows
Speak to the grown Bourgeon to receive the reported reward for helping it: a Colour of Lumina. You can stop there. If you speak to it again, guides describe an optional choice to fight it; Gamerpillar reports five Colours of Lumina and a Polished Chroma Catalyst for defeating it. That combat is a separate choice, not a required step to deliver the skin. The available guides do not establish consequences for any wider quest chain. Gamerpillar’s walkthrough describes the reported rewards; a PS5 walkthrough on GameFAQs also describes handing over skin obtained from the Flying Waters Bourgeon.
