Deltarune Chapter 5 is no longer upcoming: the official site lists Chapters 1–5 as available, and it launched on Switch and Switch 2 in June 2026. The “several months” estimate behind the old headline came from Toby Fox’s Winter 2025 development update, not a firm release date.
What Toby Fox said about Chapter 5’s timing
In his Winter 2025 newsletter, Fox wrote: “If I had to give a realistic estimate, I believe that it will take several months to release the game from where we are now.” He described a development estimate, not a scheduled launch date. That forecast was updated on January 2, 2026, when Fox posted that Chapter 5 was “on track to release later this year.” Nintendo Life reported the post on January 3. “Later this year” was still a target, rather than a specific day or month. Nintendo Life’s report.
What remained in development in Winter 2025
Fox said localization had begun: he and localization company 8-4 had extracted and annotated the game’s text for the translator. He planned for professional testing to begin after localization reached its final stages, and said the team still needed to examine console operation, work he expected to consider in January.

His update described a game that was substantially built but still needed finishing work:
- Rooms: More or less complete, apart from background polish.
- Scenes: Almost all complete; a “single digit amount” still needed visual polish.
- Battles: Most were done. A couple still needed pacing and bullet-pattern adjustments, though Fox said those unfinished battles worked from beginning to end.
Those details explain why Fox could describe the release as several months away while also saying the team would soon turn attention to Chapter 6. They were progress notes and expectations, not confirmation that Chapter 5 had shipped.

Is Deltarune Chapter 5 out now?
Yes. The official Deltarune site lists Chapters 1–5 as available and says more chapters are planned as free updates. Nintendo Life reported on June 25, 2026 that Chapter 5 was available on Switch and Switch 2 as a free update for existing owners. That report confirms availability on those consoles; check the official site for current purchase and platform details.
The site describes Deltarune as a chapter-based parallel story to Undertale, with action-focused battles and a story and soundtrack written by Toby Fox.
