To clear a Bonus Battle in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, read its tags and victory condition before the fight, then follow any scenario-specific instructions instead of relying only on damage and knockouts. Find the mode at Custom Battle > Bonus Battles. Some encounters unlock by clearing other Bonus Battles, and the post-clear Effect Table can explain the triggers behind a fight’s special rules.
What are Bonus Battles?
Bonus Battles are prepared scenarios within Custom Battle. They come with characters, dialogue, and rules already set, unlike the scenarios players create themselves in Custom Battle Mode. The official handbook describes them as a way to play curated fights and earn a reward on a battle’s first clear.
For platform availability and mode details, consult the official game handbook. The handbook confirms PS5 support; check its platform information for other editions and regions.
How to approach a Bonus Battle
- Open the mode: From the game’s menus, go to Custom Battle, then select Bonus Battles.
- Read the tags before launching: The official handbook says tags can indicate a battle’s theme, difficulty, stage, and special victory conditions. Use them as a preview of what the scenario expects.
- Check the displayed win condition: Look for requirements beyond defeating the opposing team, such as beating a particular character, using a specified move, or surviving until a time condition is met.
- Pay attention to the dialogue and restrictions: Scenario instructions may make a familiar attack or transformation the wrong choice. Follow what the encounter asks rather than assuming every fight rewards the same approach.
- After clearing, inspect the Effect Table: It shows triggers and match settings. The listed effects can include dialogue, forced character switches, CPU-level changes, transformations, and other scripted behavior.
Examples of unusual objectives
The following tactics are reported by Insider Gaming’s guide, not independently verified here. Treat them as examples rather than guaranteed solutions: updates may have changed encounter balance, so check the in-game tags, dialogue, and conditional win text if a tactic does not work.

- Master Roshi’s Training: Listen for Roshi’s instruction and use the named Super or Ultimate attack as Kid Goku.
- Welcome to Frieza Force!: Nappa must defeat the lineup, but the guide warns that using his Ultimate against Frieza causes failure. Avoid that move in the final encounter.
- Body Change Turns the Tables!: Ginyu must land Body Change to satisfy the objective.
- Late-Onset Madness: The guide says Vegeta must beat Goku without using Ki: avoid Super and Ultimate attacks, transformations, and Sparking Mode, and rely on physical attacks.
- A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus!: Keep dealing damage to prevent Beerus from ending the fight.
- God vs. God: Goku and Vegeta must handle the fight, while Beerus must not deal too much damage.
What to do when a Bonus Battle is locked
Clear the Bonus Battles that are available, then check the locked encounter again. The official handbook confirms that some battles require completing other Bonus Battles, but it does not publish a complete list of prerequisites. There is no verified universal predecessor for every locked battle, so avoid assuming that one specific clear will unlock another.
Why a clear may not work
If an encounter ends in failure despite your team winning exchanges—or even defeating opponents—recheck its stated objective. Some scenarios hinge on a specific move, target, restriction, or elapsed-time condition rather than a standard team wipe. The Effect Table becomes available after a clear and can help explain how the scenario’s triggers and settings work. The handbook does not provide a complete pre-clear breakdown of every battle’s effects.

Older walkthroughs may also stop matching the current encounter. Bandai Namco’s update notice reports that some Bonus Battles were rebalanced after changes to the battle system. If an older tactic fails, prioritize the current in-game instructions over a guide written before that adjustment.

Insider Gaming reported 37 Bonus Battles around launch in 2024, but that is a launch-era count, not a verified current total. Later claims of 40 have also appeared, while the official handbook gives no roster count. A complete current count, as well as a definitive unlock-and-reward list, is not established here.
