Is Forza Horizon 5 free to play?
The official Xbox listing presents Forza Horizon 5 as a game to buy, with cloud-play access included in Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. Those are paid subscription tiers, not a permanent free version of the game. The Xbox listing is the place to check the current offer in your region.
Forza’s official site likewise points players to Game Pass or buying the game from the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, or Steam. It does not describe a permanent free-to-play edition. Forza’s official game page
What are the ways to play without buying a separate copy?
Game Pass Premium or Ultimate
The US Xbox listing identifies cloud play for Forza Horizon 5 as included with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. You pay for the subscription rather than buying a separate game license, so this is paid access—not getting the game for free. Subscription catalogs and terms can change; check the listing and your local Game Pass offer before subscribing.

Game Pass Essential
On the Xbox listing, Game Pass Essential does not include the game for streaming: it says you must purchase Forza Horizon 5 to stream it with this tier. Do not assume that every Game Pass plan provides the same access.
A time-limited free event
Xbox’s Free Play Days announcement for October 1–4, 2026 listed other games, not Forza Horizon 5, and that event has ended. This only establishes what was included in that specific event; it does not rule out a future promotion. Check current Xbox Free Play Days announcements rather than relying on an expired offer.

Should you subscribe or buy?
| Option | Cost model | Access described by official listings | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Premium or Ultimate | Recurring paid subscription | Cloud play included on the US Xbox listing | Xbox listing |
| Game Pass Essential | Recurring paid subscription, plus a game purchase for streaming | Xbox says a purchase is required to stream Forza Horizon 5 with this tier | Xbox listing |

| Free Play Days or another promotion | May be free during a qualifying, limited-time offer | No Forza Horizon 5 access in the cited October 1–4, 2026 Free Play Days event | Xbox Wire announcement |
Choose a subscription if you want its broader service and accept recurring payments; buy the game if you want a separate game license. If your priority is spending nothing, neither a paid subscription nor a purchase is free access. Prices and availability differ by country and date, so check the relevant official storefront instead of relying on an old sale price.
Does online multiplayer require another subscription?
On the Xbox listing, console online multiplayer requires a separately sold Game Pass tier. That multiplayer requirement is distinct from whether you own the game or can access it through a subscription; check the listing for the current terms that apply to your platform and region.

How to check for a legitimate free offer
- Open the official store for your platform and region, such as the Xbox listing, PlayStation Store, or Steam.
- Look for an offer that explicitly grants access to Forza Horizon 5, and read its dates, eligibility, and platform details.
- If the offer is a Game Pass tier, confirm which tier includes the access you want and whether it is cloud streaming or another form of access.
- For a time-limited event, confirm that it is currently active. The October 1–4, 2026 Xbox event is over.
A site or download claiming to provide the full game free outside an official offer is not one of the access routes named by Forza or Xbox. Use official stores and announcements to verify any claimed giveaway or trial.
