Defeating Gladius, Beast of Night, is the reliable route: guides describe the watch as a guaranteed reward for that victory. A community-maintained item reference also reports a chance of receiving it after an unsuccessful expedition, but gives no odds.
Get the Old Pocketwatch from the Tricephalos Expedition
- At the Table of Lost Grace in Roundtable Hold, choose the Tricephalos Expedition. It is the initial expedition identified in the walkthroughs.
- Complete the expedition by defeating Gladius, Beast of Night. Guides report that defeating Gladius guarantees the Old Pocketwatch.
If an expedition ends unsuccessfully, the Old Pocketwatch may still be awarded as a random reward, according to a community-maintained item reference. No drop probability or dependable condition for that reward is stated, so repeat expeditions if needed or take the guaranteed route by defeating Gladius. Give the watch to the Priestess
- After obtaining the Old Pocketwatch, return to Roundtable Hold.
- Find the white-gowned Priestess, the NPC who first spoke to you there.
- Speak with her and choose the option to give her the Old Pocketwatch. She reveals herself as Duchess and becomes available as a playable Nightfarer.
The handoff does not permanently remove the watch: GameSpot reports that it remains usable as a Relic afterward. The detailed handoff is covered in GameSpot’s guide and [S4 source].
Select Duchess
Once unlocked, choose Duchess at the character altar beside the Table of Lost Grace. The official guide says the altar opens character selection for the Nightfarers available to you. Duchess is not initially available; she is one of the unlockable characters. See Bandai Namco’s starter guide.

What Duchess does
Bandai Namco describes Duchess as skilled in evasion, able to dodge quickly several times in succession. Her abilities are:
- Passive — Magnificent Poise
- Character Skill — Restage
- Ultimate Art — Finale, which hides Duchess and nearby allies from foes
