Your raid target, roster, and battle mode matter more than a single overall ranking.
Which Necrozma fusion should you choose?
For raids, decide by the boss’s weaknesses and the type coverage your team needs. Dawn Wings is Ghost/Psychic, while Dusk Mane is Steel/Psychic. For Master League, compare current simulations for the opponents you expect to face: both forms have utility, but their performance depends on matchups, moves, team role, and the changing league environment. Current rankings are not permanent, so avoid relying on launch-era advice.
For raids
Dawn Wings is a natural choice when you need a Ghost-type attacker. Dusk Mane offers Steel-type coverage instead. A raid boss’s weaknesses determine which is useful; neither form is automatically the better attacker for every raid. For example, a July 2026 Dawn Wings raid guide notes that the featured boss is doubly weak to Ghost and Dark attacks, and lists Mega Tyranitar, Shadow Tyranitar, and Shadow Hydreigon among its leading counters. That illustrates the value of exploiting that particular boss’s weaknesses, not a universal ranking of the fusions.

For Master League
Neither fusion has a mode-free advantage. Check the current Dawn Wings matchup simulations and the separate Master League rankings for Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane. Compare the opponents you regularly encounter and consider which role your team needs filled; a ranking alone does not account for your lineup.
What fusion costs and what happens if you separate?
According to Pokémon GO’s official fusion announcement, each form requires 1,000 of its own Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. The partner Pokémon and energy type differ:

Fusion lasts until you separate the Pokémon. Separating it costs no Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy, but fusing again requires the appropriate energy and candy. While fused, the Pokémon cannot be traded, transferred to the Professor, or transferred to Pokémon HOME.
How do their signature moves fit in?
Pokémon GO lists Sunsteel Strike for Dusk Mane and Moongeist Beam for Dawn Wings. Their official move power is 135 in Trainer Battles and 230 in Gyms and raids; those figures are mode-specific. The moves also have separate Adventure Effects for exploration, so do not confuse those effects with battle move power. A practical checklist before you fuse
- Identify your main use: raids or Master League.
- For raids, check the target boss’s weaknesses and which attacker type your team lacks.
- For Master League, compare current matchups against the opponents you expect to face.
- Confirm you have enough Solar or Lunar Fusion Energy for the form you want, plus the shared candy costs.
- If you are choosing between individual Necrozma, weigh which one you would rather invest in. Separation is free, but another fusion still costs the relevant energy and candy.
Raid counters and PvP rankings can change as Pokémon GO is updated. Recheck current guides and simulations when making a later investment rather than treating any ranking as permanent.
