In March 2025, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company preferred to share marketing materials relatively close to a game’s release window, to build excitement without leaving fans waiting too long. That was a marketing-timing explanation—not a claim that GTA 6 lacked a date because development was behind. The situation has since changed: Rockstar now lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026.
Why did GTA 6 have no release date at the time?
In remarks attributed to Zelnick in a Bloomberg Television video, he said Take-Two had found it better to provide marketing materials “relatively close to the release window” to create excitement while balancing it against “unmet anticipation.” He added: “I don’t always get it right, but that’s what we’re trying to do.” UNILAD Tech reported the comments on March 31, 2025.

His stated rationale was about when to begin marketing, not a development-based explanation for the absence of a specific date. The remarks also describe a general marketing preference; they do not establish that every GTA 6 announcement followed a fixed schedule. The comments are attributed through UNILAD Tech’s report of the Bloomberg Television video.
GTA 6 now has a release date
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists November 19, 2026. Take-Two repeated that date in its June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement. So the headline’s “doesn’t have a release date” describes the earlier news cycle, not the current announced schedule.

Platforms and announced purchase details
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. Take-Two’s June 2026 announcement gives a $79.99 standard-edition price; that is the announced price at that time, so check the current listing in your region before buying. The sources cited here do not establish a PC version.
Rockstar Support says the boxed physical version contains a download code, not a disc. Before purchasing a boxed copy, check the product listing and Rockstar’s physical-edition details, including its regional code-redemption information. Account or platform region restrictions can affect whether a code can be redeemed.
