The date and puzzle number in the supplied title point to two different Connections puzzles. Two third-party archives list September 14, 2024 as #461 and September 15 as #462. The verified #461 answers are below; if you meant the puzzle dated September 15, use the #462 answer key instead.

Hints for Connections #461

These hints are for the puzzle archived as #461 on September 14, 2024. Each points to one category without giving away its four words immediately.

  • One group consists of controls you can operate on a console or device.
  • One group contains four words that can function as prefixes.
  • For the last group, place each word before “king” to make a familiar phrase.

Why the title needs a correction

The archives agree on the date-number mapping and on both answer sets. A separate page published under the exact September 15 / #461 title lists a different set—Fruits, Scientists, U.S. Presidents, and Musical Instruments—which conflicts with both archives and is not corroborated by them. It should not be treated as a verified answer key: the conflicting exact-title page.

The available records are third-party archives rather than an official NYT puzzle page. They independently agree, but that distinction matters when identifying a historical puzzle.
