Air Force and Army: ground-game emphasis
Air Force is the clearest fit here for a run-first, option-oriented approach. Army is also ground-focused, but its greater number of shotgun formations gives you more room to mix in passing concepts. Choose based on whether you want to lean harder into the option game or preserve added shotgun flexibility.
UNLV: mobile-quarterback options
UNLV is worth considering when your quarterback can both run and pass and you want to work from shotgun with varied RPO choices. The fit depends on having a quarterback and supporting personnel capable of making those reads meaningful.

Arizona and Utah State: tight-end formations
Arizona stands out for Trips TE, while Utah State is a candidate if you want tight ends involved through Tight Slots and related options. Those formation preferences matter most when your roster has tight ends you want to feature.
Alabama and USC: two passing approaches
EA characterizes Alabama as balanced, combining downhill runs and play action with deep routes and RPOs. USC is described as an Air Raid-style quick-passing option, emphasizing slants and screens. Consider Alabama for variety across run and pass, or USC if quick throws are central to your plan.

How to change your playbook
EA’s College Football help guide gives this main-menu path for changing playbooks:
- Open Settings from the main menu.
- Select Game Settings.
- Open Game Options.
- Go to Playbooks and select the playbook you want.
EA says you can switch playbooks at any time. The help guide covers the broader College Football series, so its menu directions are official series guidance rather than a separate game-specific competitive recommendation.

What the playbook count tells you—and what it doesn’t
EA’s 2024 College Football 25 gameplay overview reported 1,500+ new plays, 50+ formations, 134 team playbooks, and 10 non-team playbooks. Those are EA’s reported content counts for the game; they show the range of choices, not which playbook is strongest.
EA also says custom playbooks can be customized and saved. That gives you a way to build around preferred plays and formations instead of relying only on a preset book.

How to make the final choice
- Match the book to your quarterback: a mobile-QB RPO approach is a poor fit if your quarterback cannot threaten as a runner.
- Match formations to your personnel: choose tight-end-centered options when you have tight ends you intend to feature.
- Choose a starting point, then adjust: EA says playbooks can be switched at any time, so you can compare how different identities feel in your own games.
- Treat rankings cautiously: published recommendations are useful descriptions of fit, not verified evidence of a current competitive meta or win-rate edge.
