The two have different access rules: pre-purchasing an expansion edition grants Paladin early access, while the Path of the Paladin class quest is available to all players. Blizzard lists Fishing as Lord of Hatred content, not as a game-wide update.
Is the Paladin back in Diablo 4?
Yes. Blizzard announced the Paladin as a playable class for Diablo IV and said it was available with expansion pre-purchase. The distinction to keep in mind is between access to the class and access to its introductory quest.

Paladin access and the class quest are different
Blizzard says pre-purchasing a Lord of Hatred edition grants Paladin early access. Separately, the Path of the Paladin class quest is available to all players and classes, regardless of expansion ownership. That free quest does not mean the full playable Paladin class is free. See Blizzard’s Paladin announcement and pre-purchase announcement.
Does Lord of Hatred add fishing?
Yes. Blizzard’s launch guide lists Fishing among the expansion’s features. It describes fishing at beaches or lakes, collecting creatures, trading fish with other players, and looking for fishing spots in Skovos. The official description says: “Trade fish with other players to complete your collection, and get creative by scouring Skovos for your special fishing spot.”

- Diablo IV is the next-gen action RPG experience with endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish Dungeons, and legendary loot.
- Embark on the campaign solo or with friends, meeting memorable characters through beautifully dark settings and a gripping story, or explore an expansive end game and shared world where players can meet in towns to trade, team up to battle World Bosses, or descend into PVP zones to test their skills against other players - no lobbies necessary - with cross-play and cross-progression on all available platforms.
Because Fishing appears in the expansion-content listing, Blizzard’s material supports treating it as paid Lord of Hatred content, rather than a free game-wide update. The announcement does not specify fishing equipment, catch rates, or rewards, so those details should not be assumed.
What else is included in the expansion?
Lord of Hatred continues the conflict with Mephisto in Skovos, an ancient region. Blizzard identifies Temis as the region’s capital and endgame hub. Its listed expansion features include:

- The Paladin and Warlock classes
- Fishing
- War Plans and Echoing Hatred
- The Horadric Cube and Talisman
- A campaign set in Skovos
Blizzard’s launch guide distinguishes expansion content from game-wide changes, including a loot filter, map overlay, pathfinding, and major skill updates. Those broader updates should not be confused with features listed specifically for the expansion.
When does Lord of Hatred launch?
Blizzard’s launch guide says rollout begins April 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. PDT. Its pre-purchase announcement describes the expansion as available April 28, 2026. These are Blizzard’s two stated formulations; the calendar date of the PDT rollout can differ by region. The announcements do not explain the wording difference.

Do you need the expansion to play Paladin or go fishing?
For the Paladin, Blizzard says pre-purchasing an expansion edition grants early access; the class quest is separately open to all players, whether or not they own an expansion. For Fishing, Blizzard lists it as Lord of Hatred content, so the official announcement does not present it as a free feature for all Diablo IV players.
The expansion requires the Diablo IV base game, an internet connection, and a Battle.net account. Access to the Lord of Hatred campaign requires purchase of the expansion. Blizzard’s pre-purchase announcement lists editions and notes that upgrading does not grant again items already unlocked on an account. No prices are included here because the cited announcement does not establish a current price.
