Sonic the Hedgehog 3 puts Keanu Reeves in the voice role of Shadow, a formidable new opponent for Team Sonic. The available facts establish the film’s premise, release and home-viewing details—but they do not establish whether Reeves’s performance delivers or identify a single flaw. Here’s what viewers can reliably expect before deciding whether to watch.
What is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 about?
In Paramount’s synopsis, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite to face Shadow. To stop him and save the planet, they have to form an unexpected alliance. Jeff Fowler directed the 2024 film, and Keanu Reeves voices Shadow.

That setup makes Shadow the story’s central new presence, but the synopsis alone does not explain his history or motivation in detail. Whether the film gives those stakes enough room alongside its action and comedy is a matter for viewers to judge.
Does Keanu Reeves deliver as Shadow?
Reeves is confirmed as Shadow’s voice, and Paramount’s home-video materials list a feature about Reeves’s portrayal of the character. Those facts establish the casting and that the performance receives attention in the bonus material; they do not, by themselves, establish how well it works. Without a grounded assessment of specific scenes, calling the performance a success—or the sequel “incredibly epic”—would go beyond what can be supported here.

How long is Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and what is its rating?
Expect a feature of about 110 minutes. The US Paramount+ listing displays a runtime of 1 hour 50 minutes and a PG rating; the BBFC’s UK cinema record gives 109 minutes 56 seconds, rounded to approximately 110 minutes. These are listings from different territories and sources, so their display formats need not match exactly.
For UK viewers, the BBFC advises that the film contains mild violence, threat, language and rude humour. Its guidance describes fights, energy blasts, explosions and fantastical weapons, and warns that flashing images may affect people susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy. Paramount+ describes its US listing as a kids-and-family film. Families should use the classification and content advice relevant to their territory.

How was the film received?
Contemporaneous coverage offers a snapshot, not a current review score. On December 22, 2024, the Associated Press reported Paramount studio estimates of a $62 million opening weekend, an 86% Rotten Tomatoes freshness figure, an A CinemaScore and a $122 million production budget. These were reported figures at that time; the opening figure was an estimate, and the ratings are not live scores.
In a February 17, 2025 press release, Paramount Pictures said the film had grossed over $478 million worldwide and called it the series’ highest-grossing film at that time. That is a dated studio claim, not a current box-office total.

Where can you watch or buy Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Paramount announced that the film would begin streaming on Paramount+ on February 18, 2025, and the platform’s catalog lists it. Streaming availability varies by region and can change, so check the catalog where you live.
A documented physical option is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. The reported edition includes Dolby Vision/HDR, Dolby Atmos, commentary by director Jeff Fowler and Ben Schwartz, and bonus material that includes a feature on Reeves’s portrayal of Shadow. Check the edition details on the package before buying; prices and retail stock were not established here.
