The tricky part is timing: survivor scoops open and expire as the 72-hour story progresses, and some rescues require a case, a call, or a specific action first. Follow a timed route, return groups regularly, and handle the mutiny warnings before they cost you multiple survivors.
Choose your goal before starting the route
PowerPyx’s remaster-specific guide, published September 18, 2024, divides the roster into 48 optional survivors and five story survivors. Those are categories, not a promise that all 53 can be saved in one playthrough: story outcomes and ending conditions affect which story survivors are available and how many escape. The guide also describes achievement-specific requirements, so decide whether you are prioritizing optional rescues, a particular achievement, or a story ending before treating a final count as your target. PowerPyx’s survivor route is the detailed timetable; its route timings and conditions are guide information, not Capcom documentation.
How survivor recruitment and escorts work
Capcom’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Official Web Manual explains the basic loop: “You may encounter survivors all over the mall. Escort them back to the Security Room to gain a large amount of PP.” Speak to a survivor to recruit them, though some will only join after you meet a condition.
Keep the group together through area transitions
Survivors follow Frank, but they can fall behind when you move between areas. If left in another area, they gradually lose health. Before crossing, check the survivor information display and make sure the group is close; call survivors to Frank or set a goal marker to direct them along the route. Deal with nearby threats before leading an injured or slow group through a dangerous stretch.

Help vulnerable survivors and build morale
Some survivors have difficulty moving and may need you to hold their hand, carry them, or support them. The manual says each survivor has three favored items: a favored weapon improves attack power, while favored food fully restores health. Either type raises morale; higher affinity can prompt survivors to find items, defend others, or help Frank.
Clear escorts regularly
PowerPyx reports that up to eight survivors can be spawned in the mall at once and recommends completing escorts regularly. In practice, avoid letting a large group occupy your route indefinitely: return recruits to the Security Room, then resume the timed scoops. The eight-survivor figure is the guide’s report, not a Capcom-published rule.

Follow the timed route, not just the case objectives
Optional survivor availability is tied to time, calls, and story prerequisites. A case-focused playthrough can therefore miss a scoop even when the main story is progressing correctly. Use PowerPyx’s full chronological schedule for each in-game day and time window, mall location, scoop or case prerequisite, and recruitment instruction: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster All Survivors Locations.
The following examples show why the schedule matters. They are checkpoints, not a replacement for the complete timetable.

Day 1: recruit the early survivors before cases advance
- Bill Brenton: Find him in the In The Closet store in Entrance Plaza. PowerPyx says he disappears once Case 2-1 begins, so recruit and escort him before advancing that case.
- Burt Thompson and Aaron Swoop: The Barricade Pair scoop is in Al Fresca Plaza. Clear the blocked entrance, calm Burt without excessively hurting him, then recruit both survivors.
Day 3: reach Tad before noon
- Tad Hawthorne: His rescue is tied to Kent’s Photographer’s Pride event in Paradise Plaza. PowerPyx says you must be in Paradise Plaza before noon on Day 3 for Tad to survive the event.
After the warning calls: prevent mutinies
- Ronald’s mutiny: After the warning call, bring Ronald a food item and give it to him. PowerPyx warns that mishandling this event can make Ronald and six other survivors leave.
- Kindell’s Betrayal: After the warning call, speak fully with Kindell in the Security Room. PowerPyx says failing this event can make Kindell leave with ten survivors.
Later story conditions: Paul and Simone
- Paul Carson: After the fight, use the nearby fire extinguisher to put out the flames, then speak to Paul to recruit him.
- Simone Ravendark: PowerPyx says she agrees to come only after Case 6-1 is complete and Isabela is in the Security Room.
Plan around endings and survivor counts
The optional-survivor route and story-survivor route are not interchangeable. PowerPyx says one story survivor is guaranteed on escape, while others depend on the chosen story path; it also notes that the survivor needed to meet Simone’s condition is itself a story casualty. Its possible escape totals and Saint achievement instructions are conditional on those story and achievement requirements. Follow the guide’s stated route for the outcome you want rather than assuming that collecting every optional survivor guarantees every story survivor or a particular ending.

Capcom announced the remaster for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; its July 2, 2024 announcement said a physical version was scheduled for November 2024. Capcom’s announcement does not establish current stock. The cited material does not establish whether later patches changed survivor timing or behavior.
