Is Mothron Post-Plantera in Terraria?

Mothron is post-Plantera in Terraria, but defeating Plantera alone does not trigger it: a Solar Eclipse must also occur.

Yes. Terraria’s Mothron is a post-Plantera enemy: it can spawn during a Solar Eclipse only after Plantera has been defeated. Beating Plantera does not summon Mothron on its own; a Solar Eclipse must occur too.

When does Mothron spawn?

Mothron appears during the Solar Eclipse event. Its individual spawn requirement is that Plantera has already been defeated. The Official Terraria Wiki’s Mothron entry describes it as a post-Plantera enemy and bases its spawn information on Desktop version 1.4.4.9 source code.

  • Plantera defeated, no Solar Eclipse: Mothron will not appear just because Plantera was beaten.
  • Solar Eclipse before Plantera is defeated: Mothron’s post-Plantera spawn condition has not been met.
  • Plantera defeated and a Solar Eclipse occurs: Mothron can spawn during the event.

Why do some guides say Mothron is post-Mechanical Bosses?

That advice reflects an older progression rule. According to the Official Terraria Wiki’s Mothron entry, Desktop 1.4.1 changed Mothron and Baby Mothron so they spawn after Plantera, replacing the earlier requirement to defeat all three Mechanical Bosses. The Wiki’s Solar Eclipse strategies guide describes the event’s broader progression as post-Mechanical Bosses; that general event description is not the same as Mothron’s stricter individual spawn gate.

Is “Mothra” the right name?

In Terraria, the enemy is spelled Mothron. “Mothra” is the kaiju it references, from the 1961 film. So if you mean Terraria’s Mothron, the answer is yes: it is post-Plantera.
