Marvel Rivals Season 5 launched on November 14, 2025, with Gambit as its new hero, Times Square as a social hub rather than a combat arena, and balance changes for heroes across all three roles. The launch update also introduced three Team-Ups and a new ranked-placement system. These are the Version 20251114 launch notes, not a description of the game’s current season or balance.
When did the Marvel Rivals Season 5 update launch?
NetEase published the Version 20251114 patch notes on November 12, 2025. They scheduled the update for November 14 at 09:00 UTC and estimated two hours of maintenance. Read the official Season 5 launch notes.
What was new in Season 5?
Gambit joined the roster
Gambit was the Season 5 launch hero. The season’s story involved Gambit and Rogue’s honeymoon, but that story setup did not announce Rogue as a playable hero in the Season 5.0 launch content.
Times Square was a social space
Times Square was a non-combat map for meeting up and taking part in activities, not a new competitive arena. The official notes described it as a place to “interact, hang out, and enjoy various activities.”

Other launch content
The launch notes also announced the serial “Love is a Battlefield,” Gambit lore titled “Deal of a Lifetime,” and a Season 5 Battle Pass with ten costume sets. The Elders’ Chessboard event listed Spider-Man – Iron Spider as its reward; this was a historical event announcement, not a claim that the reward remains available.
What were the Season 5 nerfs and buffs?
NetEase’s November 12 balance post detailed changes for Vanguards, Duelists, Strategists and Team-Ups. The examples below show the range of adjustments; they are not a complete ability-by-ability list. Some changes altered how an ability worked rather than simply making a hero stronger or weaker. Vanguards
- Angela: Assassin’s Charge accelerated dash speed increased from 16 to 18 m/s, and her ultimate spear’s health rose from 600 to 800.
- Captain America: His ultimate gained an effect that increases allies’ Ultimate Energy charge efficiency by 30% while they are in its path.
- Groot: He gained Unstoppable status within 15 m of Awakened Ironwood Walls.
- Hulk: A direct Gamma Burst hit reduced Indestructible Guard’s cooldown by one second.
- Magneto: The two shield cooldowns were separated, while each shield’s value decreased from 250 to 200.
- Peni Parker: Allies in her Cyber-Webs gained healing over time and a movement boost: 15 healing per second and 25% increased movement, as specified in the post.
- The Thing: Stone Haymaker’s base damage fell from 90 to 55, alongside new percentage-damage and bonus-health effects.
Duelists
- Hawkeye: Archer’s Focus maximum bonus damage increased from 75 to 90.
- Mister Fantastic: Reflexive Rubber became usable during Inflated after reaching 100 Elasticity, and its health effect changed.
- Phoenix: Maximum damage falloff at 30 m changed from 60% to 75%.
- Spider-Man: Web-Cluster energize time decreased from 2.5 to 2 seconds, while Amazing Combo damage increased from 60 to 70.
- Squirrel Girl: Burst Acorn damage increased from 100 to 110.
- Storm: Ally damage boosts increased to 12% and 15% for the effects named in the post.
- The Punisher: Base health increased from 275 to 300, with other weapon changes.
- Wolverine: Percentage damage per Rage point increased, and Feral Leap’s cooldown decreased from 15 to 12 seconds.
Strategists
- Adam Warlock: Soul flight speed increased from 6 to 12 m/s. Karmic Revival’s energy cost decreased from 4,700 to 4,500, and its detection radius increased from 30 to 35 m.
- Cloak & Dagger: Base health increased by 25.
- Invisible Woman: Orb Projection damage, range and speed increased; Force Physics length increased from 30 to 35 m. Guardian Shield also gained a deployment effect.
- Loki: Base health increased by 25. Mystical Missile received damage-falloff changes and a direct-hit ally-healing effect.
- Rocket Raccoon: B.R.B. cooldown decreased from 45 to 40 seconds; Repair Mode capacity and speed increased, as did Bombard Mode projectile speed.
These are the launch post’s documented changes, not evidence of how the adjustments affected win rates or the competitive meta. Later patches may also have changed the live values.

Season 5 added three Team-Ups, with the listed anchor effects and partner abilities:

- Explosive Entanglement — Gambit and Magneto: Gambit gained 5% increased healing as anchor; Magneto gained Royal Blade.
- Sword of Duality — Cloak & Dagger and Hawkeye: Hawkeye gained Moonlit Slash.
The balance post also listed other changes: Hawkeye lost Ice Arrow from Chilling Assault; Lunar Force was removed; Magneto lost Magnetic Resonance from Mental Projection; Operation: Microchip was removed and The Punisher lost its anchor bonus; and Black Widow gained Phoenix Sniper through Primal Flame.
How did ranked play change?
Season 5 made a player’s first ten ranked matches placement matches. The launch notes addressed predicted versus actual rank, matchmaking during placements, party-size and rank-gap restrictions, reward eligibility, and disconnection penalties. Queue rules varied by tier and whether players were in placements, so there was no single party rule for every ranked match.

- Outside placements: Bronze through Grandmaster players could queue with any party size except a five-player party. Celestial, Eternity and One Above All players were limited to solo or duo queue.
- During placements: Teams were limited to three players, with additional rank-gap and matchmaking rules described in the official notes.
What other system features were announced?
The launch notes said cross-progression account linking became fully available, added interactive emotes, and introduced a setting to rotate the home background randomly. Xbox gained Discord linking and cross-platform chat. Xbox and PC players also gained an option to hide unlinked Discord friends in-game.
