Which activities award Strange Coins?
Bungie’s June 13, 2024 activity list names these sources:
- Vanguard activities
- Crucible activities
- Trials activities
- Iron Banner activities
- Gambit activities
- Onslaught activities
Bungie did not publish comparative drop rates, completion-time yields, or a best farm in that explanation. Choose a mode you can complete comfortably and efficiently rather than relying on an unsupported coins-per-hour ranking. The list is based on Bungie’s June 13, 2024 This Week in Destiny; it is not a fresh confirmation of every mechanic in October 2026.
Do not farm Dares of Eternity for Strange Coins
Bungie said Strange Coins were no longer awarded for Dares of Eternity or Paraversal Hauls under the changed economy. Older guides may describe the previous system, but those are not current routes in Bungie’s June 2024 explanation.
How Strange Favor works
At Xûr, spending 47 Strange Coins unlocks Strange Favor. Bungie described it as a buff that gives a chance for a bonus Strange Coin whenever you earn a Strange Coin—not a guaranteed extra coin for each activity. Its stated duration is 11 days, it is available once per week, and refreshing it weekly can build its effectiveness up to three stacks. These figures come from Bungie’s 2024 description and are not independently verified current values.

Bungie’s July 23, 2024 patch notes say it fixed an issue that prevented Strange Favor bonus coins from dropping during ritual activities. That fix is useful context for older launch-era reports that the buff was not working; it does not establish whether later changes have occurred. See the July 23, 2024 patch notes.
Where to spend Strange Coins and how much you can hold
In Bungie’s June 2024 description, Xûr’s Tower storefront accepted Strange Coins and was open Friday through Tuesday. Vendor schedules can change, so check the current in-game vendor listing rather than treating that dated schedule as guaranteed.

Bungie announced in January 2025 that the inventory cap would rise from 99 to 199 Strange Coins with the launch of Heresy, while prices would remain unchanged. The cited announcement does not establish whether the cap changed again afterward. See Bungie’s January 2025 announcement.

What is confirmed—and what is not
Bungie’s July 2025 Xûr update describes vendor inventory changes but does not restate the Strange Coin earning list. The available official sources therefore establish the dated activity list, Strange Favor description, and announced cap change above; they do not confirm that every detail remains unchanged as of October 2026. For the most current behavior, check the in-game activity and vendor descriptions.
