Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf you want GeoGuessr’s familiar Street View routine without starting with a paid plan, try OpenGuessr or WorldGuessr first. Both describe free, unlimited solo play using Google Street View, with no account required to begin. For something different, choose a walking-video game, historical-photo challenge, daily country puzzle, or map quiz—those test geography in a different way rather than recreating the same panorama-and-pin loop.
“Free” can mean unlimited solo rounds but limited access to other features, or a daily puzzle rather than open-ended play. The options below are grouped by the kind of game they offer, so you can find a close substitute or a different geography challenge. Feature and access details can change; check each service’s current start page before relying on a specific limit.

Closest to GeoGuessr: free Street View games
OpenGuessr: start playing without an account
OpenGuessr is the clearest first stop if what you want is the core GeoGuessr loop: inspect a Google Street View scene, work out where you are, and place a guess. The game’s own page describes unlimited free play without an account, single-player maps, and multiplayer modes.
#1 Best Overall

OpenGuessr also lists duels, competitions, tens of thousands of maps, and beginner-friendly Country Guessr and Meta Guessr modes. Those are claims from the service itself, not independently verified counts or performance results. The page says supporter perks include cosmetics, slight boosts, and ad-free play, so “free” does not mean every optional perk is included.
WorldGuessr: solo rounds, challenges, and parties
WorldGuessr also uses real Google Street View, according to its about page, and says unlimited solo play is available without an account. It describes ranked 1v1 and 2v2 duels, unranked matches, private parties, daily challenges, and player-made maps. Its page reports mobile-browser support and Android and iOS apps; check the current store listings and service page for availability in your region.
WorldGuessr is a separate game, not a GeoGuessr product. The service says it is made by an independent developer and is not affiliated with GeoGuessr. Its page gives different map counts in different sections, so a precise map total is not a dependable way to compare it.

Free GeoGuessr alternatives with a different format
CityGuesser: watch a walking tour and guess
Maponica describes CityGuesser as a video-based game built around walking-tour footage. Instead of moving through an interactive panorama, you infer a location from what the video shows. It is a better match for someone who enjoys reading street scenes but wants a different viewing format. Maponica reported different account access among the services it tested on July 5, 2026; check CityGuesser’s current start flow before assuming it can be played without registering.

TimeGuessr: use historical photos as clues
TimeGuessr shifts the challenge from Street View to historical photographs. It is a fit for players who like identifying visual clues and placing them in both a geographic and historical context. The July 2026 comparison lists it as an alternative, but does not establish its current round limits or multiplayer terms.
Worldle, Globle, and Travle: daily country puzzles
- Worldle asks you to identify a country from its silhouette.
- Globle uses proximity clues to help you deduce a country.
- Travle turns country borders into a route-finding puzzle.
These are compact geography puzzles, not open-ended location hunts. Pick one when you want a daily brainteaser rather than a long session inspecting streets and landscapes.

Other listed options: GuessWhereYouAre, Geotastic, and GeoHub
The July 2026 comparison also lists GuessWhereYouAre, Geotastic, and GeoHub. It reported that Geotastic and GeoHub required accounts during its July 5 test, while access differed across the services reviewed. Those are dated observations, not verified October 2026 rules. Check each game directly for its current account wall, free-round limits, solo and multiplayer choices, and any optional paid features before investing time in a setup.
What “free” means when choosing an alternative
Before you pick a game, compare the parts of access that change the actual experience—not just whether a page advertises a free option.

For several smaller alternatives, the July 2026 comparison is the available evidence, and it is not a current verification of every game’s terms.
Can you play GeoGuessr for free?
GeoGuessr’s free access and subscription terms can change, so check its current pricing page before deciding whether to use it or switch. Maponica’s comparison, updated July 23, 2026, says it tested on July 5, 2026; it reported that the free Daily Challenge then offered five locations and required an account. It also listed annual-billed Unlimited at €2.99 per month (€35.88 per year) and annual-billed Elite at €4.99 per month (€59.88 per year), as observed on that test date. These are dated observations, not guaranteed October 2026 prices or limits.
