What kind of game is Hades II?
Hades II is a rogue-like dungeon crawler and a direct sequel to Hades. You play as Melinoë, Princess of the Underworld, fighting the Titan of Time. Runs bring together action combat, weapon and ability choices, encounters with mythic characters, and a story that progresses over time.

You do not need to know the first game or Greek mythology to follow along, according to Supergiant’s official FAQ. Returning players can expect connections to the original, but prior knowledge is not a requirement.
Is Hades II still in Early Access?
No. Supergiant ended Early Access and released version 1.0 on September 25, 2025. The full release added the true ending, more events for the fully voiced characters, new music, Fated List prophecies, late-game unlockables, and other finishing touches, as described in the version 1.0 announcement. There are not separate Early Access and complete editions to choose between now.

Where can you play Hades II?
Supergiant lists Hades II for Steam, the Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The developer also identifies it as Steam Deck Verified. For console performance, Supergiant said in a March 26, 2026 update that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions run at 120 frames per second. That is the developer’s statement, not an independent performance test. Which version should you choose?
Digital copies
If you already own one of the supported platforms, the digital version is the straightforward option. Check the platform before buying if you expect to move a save between devices: cross-save works between Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and between Steam and the Epic Games Store. Supergiant says other cross-save pairings are unavailable because of technical limitations, so do not assume a PC save can transfer to a console.

Switch physical edition
A physical game card for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch launched on November 20, 2025. Supergiant says the card works on both console generations, despite packaging that emphasizes the Switch 2 Edition. It includes a full-color 32-page Character Compendium, a reversible cover, and a soundtrack download code. Supergiant recommends connecting to the internet to receive updates. Will you enjoy playing it?
Hades II is a strong match if you enjoy learning through repeated action runs, experimenting with weapons and abilities, meeting a cast of characters, and seeing story progress alongside combat. Its premise and official description support those features; they cannot establish whether its difficulty or particular combat feel will suit every player.

There are positive reception signals, but read them in context. Supergiant’s FAQ reports that Hades II was the highest-rated game of 2025 according to Metacritic and OpenCritic. Separately, the Steam listing showed 96% positive English-language reviews from 65,930 reviews when accessed on October 8, 2026. That figure is a dated, changing storefront snapshot, not a permanent rating or an independent review consensus. See the Steam listing.

Early Access is part of Hades II’s development history, not its current purchase status. The game moved to version 1.0 in September 2025, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions followed on April 14, 2026. If you are deciding whether to play now, the relevant questions are which platform you want, whether you need a supported cross-save pairing, and whether you prefer a digital copy or the Switch physical edition.
