Homicipher is a point-and-click horror adventure about learning to interpret the words of non-human characters. You read expressions, gestures, and the objects they indicate to work out what they mean—and make choices that can open routes, change the story, or put the protagonist in danger.
What is Homicipher?
Homicipher is a language-deciphering exploration adventure with horror and romance elements. Its protagonist wakes in a different world, encounters beings who speak an unfamiliar language, and tries to find a way out. Rather than presenting the language as a set of translations to memorize, the game asks you to infer meaning from what is happening around each conversation.
The official Steam listing describes it as a point-and-click adventure. Its central mystery is also its main mechanic: figuring out what the characters are saying may help you understand the world, choose how to respond, and survive encounters.
How does the language-decoding gameplay work?
Use context to infer words
Characters communicate through expressions, gestures, and objects they point to. You can inspect items and talk with characters to gather clues and add vocabulary to the in-game dictionary. The fictional language uses individual words and a limited set of particles; strings of words convey only a rough meaning. That design makes context and repeated observation more useful than expecting a straightforward, word-for-word translation.

- Investigate Van Helsing’s mysterious disappearance in a thrilling CLUE adventure featuring legendary Universal Monsters.
- Play as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Bride, Wolf Man, Mummy, or Creature from the Black Lagoon.
- Determine who committed the crime, what item was used, and where the evidence is hidden before time runs out.
- Immersive universal horror-inspired gameplay combines classic deduction mechanics with iconic movie monster lore.
- Perfect for family game nights, collectors, film enthusiasts, and fans of suspenseful mystery experiences.
Revisit conversations as your vocabulary grows
Newly learned words can change how an earlier exchange reads. The Steam listing advises that you may need to revisit conversations after filling in the dictionary to understand them more fully. Chapter selection also lets you return to previously encountered scenes, and acquired flags can unlock additional choices.
Choices can have serious consequences
Some actions produce small story changes, some branch into different paths, and others can lead to immediate death, according to the store description. If a choice ends in a game over, the listing says you can retry from just before it without a penalty. That makes experimentation possible, though it does not remove the danger built into the story.

How long is Homicipher?
Steam estimates about five hours for one full playthrough covering all routes. This is the store’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time. The actual time can vary with how quickly you interpret clues and whether you revisit conversations or scenes.
How many endings does Homicipher have?
The Steam listing states that the game has 17 total endings and 20 types of mid-story endings, which it describes as bad endings or unresolved problems. These are separate counts in the listing; they should not be added together as if they were two non-overlapping sets of endings. The page also warns that one apparent happy ending in the middle of the story is fake.
