How to get Gimmighoul with the Coin Bag
- Pair Pokémon GO with Scarlet or Violet. Follow the connection instructions in the game to link Pokémon GO with Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet on Nintendo Switch. The official Pokémon GO announcement describes this connection as the route to sending postcards and unlocking the Coin Bag.
- Send a postcard from Pokémon GO. Sending your first postcard unlocks the Coin Bag. The official guidance says you can send one postcard per day, and the counter resets at midnight; it does not specify the timezone for that reset.
- Use the Coin Bag. It attracts Roaming Form Gimmighoul nearby for a limited time. The announcement does not state a duration, so check the in-game effect rather than relying on a fixed number of minutes.
- Send more postcards on later days. Postcard sending refreshes the Coin Bag, and sending multiple postcards can earn a Golden Lure Module. The official announcement does not give the exact number of postcards required.
How to make a PokéStop gold
Use a Golden Lure Module on a PokéStop to make it a Golden PokéStop. Spin its Photo Disc for a chance to receive Gimmighoul Coins. Roaming Form Gimmighoul can also appear at a Golden Lure stop, but the official announcement describes that appearance as extremely rare.
This is different from the Coin Bag: the Coin Bag is the direct way to attract Gimmighoul, while a Golden Lure stop is primarily useful for collecting coins. The Coin Bag route requires a postcard connection to Scarlet or Violet; a Golden Lure stop requires access to a lure placed by a player.
What yellow or gold PokéStops mean
A gold-colored PokéStop generally indicates that a Golden Lure Module has been used there. Spinning it can yield Gimmighoul Coins, but the color alone does not guarantee a Gimmighoul encounter.

Pokémon GO’s February 27, 2023 launch announcement also described temporary wild Golden PokéStops that could appear without a Golden Lure Module. That was tied to a limited 24-hour launch window; Gimmighoul did not appear at those wild stops. The announcement said similar events might happen irregularly, so it is not evidence that wild gold stops are active now.
How to get enough coins to evolve Gimmighoul
In Pokémon GO, Roaming Form Gimmighoul evolves into Gholdengo after you collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins. The official announcement identifies three ways to get coins: catching Gimmighoul, walking with it as your buddy, and spinning the Photo Disc at Golden PokéStops. The Golden Lure route therefore helps with the evolution requirement even though Gimmighoul itself is an extremely rare appearance there.

If you mainly want an encounter, start with the Coin Bag. If you are collecting the 999 coins for Gholdengo, spin Golden PokéStops when you find them and use the other listed coin sources as well.
