1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDragon’s Dogma 2 can feel demanding early because success depends on more than picking a class: you need to build a party, use its strengths, and respond to the situation. The opening vocation choice is flexible, Pawns are central to how the game works, and fights reward attention to enemy weaknesses and terrain—not simply rushing in.
Choose a vocation by role, not fear of getting it wrong
You begin with four vocations: Fighter, Mage, Archer, and Thief. The choice shapes how you approach combat, but it is not an irreversible decision: you can change vocations at a Vocation Guild. Pick the style that sounds enjoyable, then experiment as you learn what the party needs. The descriptions below reflect roles, not a ranking of which vocation is strongest or easiest.

| Vocation | What it does | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Fighter | Uses a sword and shield in close combat and can protect itself and allies. | You stay near danger, so defense and recognizing openings matter. |
| Mage | Provides ranged magic, healing, weapon support, and attacks. | More advanced spells take longer to cast, so look for a safe moment rather than beginning a long cast under pressure. |
| Archer | Attacks from range, including high targets and enemy weak points. | Positioning and target choice matter; ranged attacks can also create openings for allies. |
| Thief | Uses fast dagger strikes and mobility to exploit openings. | Its approach rewards movement and timing rather than standing in the front line. |
Capcom’s official PlayStation game page describes these distinct vocation roles, while the official manual lists the four starting choices and changing vocation at a Vocation Guild.
Use Pawns as part of your plan
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player adventure, not online co-op. Pawns are AI companions who fight alongside you and can help outside combat. You can have up to three Pawns in your party; two additional Pawns may be hired through in-game options or from other players online. Hiring a Pawn made by another player does not turn that player into a co-op partner.
#1 Best Overall
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet
Give your Pawns commands and pay attention when one suggests guidance or help with a task. Capcom’s manual describes responding to a Pawn’s recent suggestion as a way to prompt actions such as guiding you to a location or helping with a task. Treat those suggestions as useful leads, not as a reason to stop paying attention to your surroundings.
The official game page describes the Pawn party system, and the official manual covers commands and Pawn suggestions.

- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
Read the encounter instead of treating every fight as a damage race
Capcom’s product description names the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl and advises considering party setup, terrain, and enemy strengths and weaknesses. That points to a practical habit: before committing to a fight, look at what your group can do and where the fight is happening.
- Use the right reach. Archer attacks can pressure distant or high targets, while Fighter and Thief are built around close-range openings.
- Make room for support. A Mage can heal and support the party, but longer casts require a moment when the caster is not exposed.
- Notice the ground and positioning. Terrain and range affect whether a vocation can use its strengths effectively.
- Let openings shape your timing. Fast movement, defense, ranged attacks, and spellcasting solve different problems; forcing one approach into every encounter wastes those differences.
These are role-based ways to think about a fight, not guarantees that a specific vocation or party will win. The game’s official descriptions support adapting to enemies and terrain, but they do not establish a universally best class or numerical performance ranking.

Travel advice depends on the update
Older guides may describe a more restrictive travel experience. PC Gamer reported on June 11, 2026, that the June 10 update added an Eternal Ferrystone, more Portcrystals, Oxcart stopovers, longer departure hours, reduced stamina use while dashing outside combat, and the ability to use Ferrystones from the map. The report says the Eternal Ferrystone is granted after speaking with Brant during “Seat of the Sovran.”
This is a dated secondary account, not a platform-by-platform confirmation from Capcom: the official patch-notes page linked from that report returned an error when checked. If you are following an older guide, compare its travel instructions with the options available in your current game rather than assuming they still describe the latest version.
