Uploading is separate from putting the item on sale, and Roblox currently lists separate upload and publishing fees.
Choose the correct clothing type
A classic Shirt uses a template that wraps around the torso and arms. A classic T-Shirt is a square image displayed on the front of the torso; Roblox gives 512 × 512 pixels as an example. If your design is a square front graphic, select T-Shirt rather than Shirt during upload. These instructions cover classic 2D clothing, not modern 3D clothing. Roblox’s classic clothing guide explains the formats.
Prepare the shirt image
- Download Roblox’s classic Shirt template from the classic clothing guide.
- Open it in an image editor and create your design on the mapped regions. Roblox’s template uses 128 × 128-pixel front and back areas, 64 × 128-pixel side areas, 128 × 64-pixel upper and lower regions, and 64 × 64-pixel areas for small arm and leg tops and bottoms.
- Export the finished image as PNG or JPG. Roblox’s documented workflow requires an image editor and a web browser; it does not require a drawing tablet.
Keep the template’s regions and seams in mind while designing: artwork positioned across the wrong body panels can land too high, too low, or out of alignment when the shirt is worn.
Test it in Roblox Studio before uploading
Roblox recommends testing classic clothing in Studio before upload or sale. The test does not require a fee.

- In Studio, open the Avatar tab and use the Character tool to add a Block Avatar rig.
- Insert a Shirt object under the rig.
- Set the Shirt object’s ShirtTemplate property to your image.
- Inspect how the artwork sits across the torso, arms, and seams; adjust the image and test again if placement looks wrong.
For comparison, a classic T-shirt uses a ShirtGraphic object and its Graphic property. Roblox’s Studio instructions cover the classic clothing test.
Upload the classic Shirt in Creator Dashboard
- Open Creator Dashboard and go to Avatar Items > Classics.
- Drag your image into the upload area or choose Upload Asset.
- On the Upload Asset page, set Asset Type to Shirt.
- Enter a name and description, then click Upload.
The Classics area is also where you can check moderation status and open an asset’s configuration page. Uploading submits the item for moderation; it does not automatically put it up for sale. Roblox does not specify a fixed moderation turnaround time. See the classic clothing upload guide.

Understand the fees and sale requirements
Roblox’s current Creator Hub guidance lists distinct charges for submitting a classic clothing asset and publishing it for sale. The Marketplace fees and commissions page says upload fees generally are not refunded if moderation rejects an item.

Account eligibility to upload and sell
Under Roblox’s current Marketplace policy, uploading requires government ID verification or a linked parental account with government ID verification. Publishing also requires that verification, two-step verification, the applicable publishing advance, and Roblox Plus or Premium 1000/2200 for the individual creator or group owner. Roblox says the individual creator or group owner needs Roblox Plus or Premium 1000/2200 to keep existing content on sale as well.
Configure the item for sale, if you want to sell it
After the upload process and moderation, open the asset from Avatar Items > Classics. From its configuration page, review the public name and description, turn on On Sale, and set a price if you meet the current publishing requirements. Uploading alone does not publish a listing. Roblox’s moderation and publishing sequence is described on its Marketplace fees and commissions page.

Why a classic Shirt may not appear on every avatar
Roblox warns that many user-generated Marketplace avatars do not support 2D classic clothing. An uploaded shirt may therefore work on one avatar and fail to show correctly on another. Test the item on the avatar types your intended audience uses; if broad compatibility with newer avatar styles matters, consider whether a 3D clothing asset is a better fit. Roblox’s documentation does not provide a like-for-like comparison of classic and 3D clothing workflows or audience reach. The classic clothing guide contains Roblox’s compatibility warning.
Follow Roblox’s content rules
Upload only designs you have the rights to use and follow Roblox’s Community Standards and Marketplace guidelines. The policy assigns clothing to appropriate Tops or Bottoms categories and explains content that may fail moderation or be removed. Review the current Marketplace policy before submitting a design.
