Vendetta is Overwatch 2’s melee-focused Damage flanker, built around close-range sword attacks, mobility and a limited defensive stance. Blizzard introduced her in Season 20 in December 2025, so she is no longer a new hero. Her Palatine Fang is a fictional hard-light greatsword; “hard (light) hitter” describes the weapon’s fiction and her heavy melee style, not a real-world material or product.
Who is Vendetta in Overwatch 2?
Vendetta is the Overwatch name of Marzia Bartalotti, a fictional character in the game’s story. Blizzard’s biography says she is the daughter of Talon boss Antonio Bartalotti. After Blackwatch killed her father, she lost her claim to the family empire and became a celebrated gladiator in the Colosseo arena in Rome. Her goal is to reclaim that empire.
Blizzard introduced her in Season 20 in December 2025, describing her at launch as “the first melee DPS Hero in Overwatch history.” That is Blizzard’s launch framing. For background on the character and abilities, see the official Vendetta hero page and the Season 20 announcement.
What does Vendetta’s kit do?
Her abilities create a cycle of approaching, attacking at close range, and using a stance to block or threaten a ranged counter. These descriptions summarize the kit; live behavior can change through balance updates.

Do not treat the ability descriptions as immutable: in June 2026, Blizzard changed Warding Stance to reflect projectiles, changed Whirlwind Dash so it pulls enemies rather than pushing them, and changed Sundering Blade so it hits behind Vendetta as well as in front.
How should you approach playing Vendetta?
Think of Vendetta as a close-range flanker, not a sword-wielding substitute for a ranged Damage hero. Her dash and sword-throw leap help her cover distance, while Warding Stance offers a way to face incoming pressure and Projected Edge can threaten from the stance. Her core trade-off is straightforward: she needs to enter melee range to make her weapon matter, exposing herself to danger on the way in and while committing to a fight.

- Look for a route into close range. Use mobility to approach rather than expecting the sword to reach distant targets.
- Use the stance deliberately. It is directional, and blocking damage drains energy; Projected Edge also uses that energy.
- Account for her combo timing. Her basic attacks link into an overhead swing, so timing and reach affect whether the follow-up connects.
- Check current ability behavior. Patches have altered both damage and mechanics; practice with the current live version rather than relying on old launch guides.
Blizzard’s developer feature says the team considered a long-range hitscan and a midrange assassin before choosing a close-range melee prototype. The designers wanted heavy melee damage with more mobility than Reinhardt or Brigitte, whom the feature describes as the other true melee-weapon heroes. Why do older Vendetta guides show different numbers?
Vendetta’s kit has received substantial balance changes since launch. The patch figures below are the changes Blizzard announced in those specific updates—not a complete current stat sheet or a guarantee of present live values.

The most useful comparison is not a claim that Vendetta is stronger or easier, but how her kit handles the risks of close range. Blizzard’s developer feature says her mobility is greater than Reinhardt’s or Brigitte’s; her sword combo, leap and dash give her ways to close distance, while her stance provides a frontal defensive option that consumes energy when it blocks damage. This makes her a mobile melee flanker rather than a frontline tank. The sources cited here do not establish rank-specific performance, matchup advantages or pick-rate trends.
