The Seikret is most useful as a moving field-support mount: send it toward a marked destination, steer it yourself, recover or gather while riding, and swap to a second weapon when the hunt calls for a different setup. For sustained damage, dismount—the Monster Hunter Wilds development team says mounted combat options are limited.
When to use auto-move and when to steer manually
Capcom says the Seikret can use its sense of smell to travel automatically to destinations selected on the map. This is useful when you want to head toward a marked objective without steering every moment. Manual movement is better when you want to control your route, pace, or position more precisely.

The exact inputs depend on platform and control remapping. For your current layout, check the in-game Play Guide or Controls menu rather than assuming a button shown for another platform will match yours.
Use a ride to recover and gather
A Seikret ride can create room for field maintenance while you move away from danger. PlayStation’s starter guide recommends calling the mount to sharpen and replenish health or stamina while keeping distance from the monster. Capcom’s feature overview also describes using certain items and the slinger, and gathering materials while moving.

These are situational options, not a guarantee that every item or action is available in every state. Use the ride to make space, attend to what the game allows, and collect nearby materials; dismount when you are ready to fight again.
Switch to your secondary weapon while riding
The Seikret carries a second weapon, so you can change your approach in the field instead of returning to base. PlayStation’s starter guide gives these inputs for its PlayStation control scheme:

- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
- Right on the directional pad: switch weapons while riding.
- Left on the directional pad: open the Seikret item pouch.
For other platforms, or if you have remapped your controls, confirm the equivalent actions in the in-game control guide.
Choose the second weapon for the situation rather than following a universal pairing. Xbox Wire’s account of developer guidance points to the monster’s type and attack patterns, breakable parts, and elemental needs as reasons to adapt. If you prefer a single weapon type, carrying two versions with different elemental properties is another option.

Use mounted attacks for utility, then dismount
You can attack while riding, and the development team describes the Seikret as able to avoid attacks to an extent. But mounted actions are limited. The mount is better treated as a way to reposition, use available field actions, recover, or change weapons than as a replacement for your weapon’s full moveset. Dismount when you want to deal substantial damage.

Automaton West’s March 4, 2025 guide describes two manual movement behaviors: Type 1 retains the current speed when you stop giving input, while Type 2 stops when directional input ceases. If your Seikret keeps moving when you release the controls, try Type 2 in the Controls tab. This behavior description comes from a secondary guide; check the current game settings, particularly if you have changed controls or the game has been updated.
