Target the Scadutree Avatar’s sunflower head, use fire if your build can apply it reliably, and save your attacks for the recovery after its moves. The fight has three health bars: after each of the first two, land the exposed-head critical hit before the boss reforms to reduce the next phase’s health. Phase two adds three forward charges; phase three adds a charged Holy explosion.
Where to find the Scadutree Avatar
The optional boss is at Scadutree Base, beneath Shadow Keep. Reach the Church District, drain its water, then take the church-area elevator down toward the base and the arena. Windows Central’s guide and GameSkinny’s guide describe the route.

Prepare for the fight
Improve your Shadow Realm Blessing
If the Avatar is draining your healing before you can make progress, collect Scadutree Fragments and raise your Shadow Realm Blessing at a Site of Grace. Bandai Namco says this blessing increases a character’s ability to deal and negate damage in the Realm of Shadow. Revered Spirit Ashes raise a separate blessing that strengthens summoned spirits and the spectral steed; both are expansion progression systems, not special counters for this boss. Bandai Namco’s official guidance was published June 25, 2024.
Choose damage and defense you can use consistently
Fire is the clearest damage recommendation across the consulted boss guides. Windows Central also recommends Magic, though that suggestion comes from one guide in this source set. Prioritize whichever option lets you land reliable hits on the head rather than changing your build around a damage type you cannot apply safely.

The Avatar uses mostly physical attacks alongside Holy attacks, and its thorn attacks can build bleed. Physical and Holy defense, plus bleed resistance, can help if those are causing trouble. Stanching Boluses can relieve current bleed buildup. These are optional defensive measures, not requirements.
Target the head and punish recovery
Lock on to the sunflower head when it is reachable. It takes substantially more damage than the body, so body hits are less rewarding. Melee players who struggle to connect with the elevated target can consider ranged weapon skills; Windows Central names Ice Spear, Spectral Lance, and Beast Roar as examples, not required equipment.
Look for openings after broad sweeps, slams, and the charged Holy burst. Avoid committing to a long attack while the Avatar is still finishing a sequence: several moves have delayed follow-ups, and the safest punish often comes only after the entire string ends.
How to handle the Avatar’s attacks
Thorn lines and ground eruptions
- Opening thorn lines: Roll as the lines approach. Watch for delayed follow-up lines instead of attacking as soon as the first one passes.
- Ground thorns: Watch the ground and the rings around the Avatar. Thorns nearer the boss emerge sooner than those farther away, so time your movement or rolls to the eruptions rather than reacting to the first sign of every ring.
Arm sweeps, slams, and swipes
- Two wide arm sweeps: Dodge through the sweeps. The second leaves a chance to reach the head during recovery.
- Repeated arm slams: Evade the opening strikes forward, but wait for the delayed final slam before moving in. Punish after the sequence is complete.
- Swipe followed by a delayed smash: Do not counter after the first swipe. Wait for the second attack, dodge it, then strike.
Holy projectiles
When the Avatar raises and charges its head, prepare for tracking Holy projectiles. Dodge as they approach and keep watching for additional waves; clearing the first volley does not necessarily end the attack.
What changes in each phase
The fight has three health bars. When one empties, move to the exposed head and land the critical hit before the Avatar reforms. Do this after both the first and second bars; the transition hit helps reduce the health of the next phase. The same opening appears when finishing the final phase.
Phase one
Learn the thorn patterns, sweeps, and delayed slams. Focus on reaching the head during recovery rather than trying to trade hits.
Phase two
The Avatar adds three forward rushes. Dodge each as the head nears, and do not assume the final rush will always use identical timing: it can be canceled or altered.
Phase three
The Avatar charges with bright Holy energy before detonating. The guides differ on the response: Windows Central recommends rolling toward the boss at detonation and punishing its collapse, while GameSkinny advises running away. Choose based on distance and how confidently you can read the blast. If you practice the inward roll, commit only when you can recognize the detonation reliably; watch for additional blasts if the glow remains.
Rewards
Windows Central reports that defeating the Avatar awards the Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower and Miquella’s Great Rune. Check the reward text in your current game version if you need to confirm the exact drops.
