The trial and the season launch have both passed: Hazard joined the game with Season 14 on December 10, 2024. The original “playable this weekend” wording referred to that November 2024 trial, not a current event.
Who is Hazard in Overwatch 2?
Hazard is a tank whose mobile dive-and-brawl style lets him pressure vulnerable opponents and return to the frontline. Blizzard described him as the game’s first Scottish hero and connected his identity to the Phreaks faction.

When was Hazard playable, and when did he launch?

What does Hazard’s kit do?
Hazard’s abilities combine vertical movement, close-to-midrange attacks, frontal defense and area control. The following is a plain-language guide to the kit Blizzard described, not a competitive ranking or independent performance test.
- Bonespur: His primary fire is a shotgun-like weapon that fires bursts of spikes at close-to-midrange opponents.
- Jagged Wall: Hazard deploys a spiky Vanadium wall that can attach to surfaces, including walls and ceilings. Opponents who touch it take damage and are knocked back.
- Vault: He can climb Jagged Wall and travel a short distance along vertical surfaces, giving him ways to change elevation and approach.
- Violent Leap: This medium-range, two-stage leap can include a slash when the player presses Shift or Melee during the jump.
- Spike Guard: Hazard blocks incoming damage from the front, sends spikes at nearby enemies and regenerates ammunition while guarding.
- Downpour: His ultimate sends spikes across an area, damaging and rooting enemies. Blizzard says the attack pierces terrain, so ordinary wall cover does not protect targets caught in its range.
Blizzard’s gameplay advice is to use Hazard’s mobility to seek vulnerable targets rather than spending the whole match dueling the opposing tank. That is the developer’s guidance, not a claim about measured results. Blizzard’s Hazard reveal and gameplay overview

What is Hazard’s connection to the Phreaks?
Blizzard’s backstory presents the Phreaks as Hazard’s found family. He grew up facing hardship and found a home among their anti-establishment community. The group are body-modders with close ties to Omnics and an interest in bodily autonomy.
Blizzard also described a change in the character’s creative direction: Hazard’s concept began as a massive, intimidating villain and developed into a rebellious figure with a protector’s side. The seasonal announcement likewise linked him to the Phreaks and described him as the first Scottish hero in Overwatch 2. Hazard’s art, backstory and gameplay · Season 14 announcement
