EA lists Split Fiction for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Its purchase page lists the EA app, Steam, Epic Games, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, and Xbox. Check EA’s purchase page and Switch 2 feature details for platform information.
How to invite a friend online with Friend’s Pass
- Pick the owner and confirm platforms. One player buys and installs the full game. The other downloads the free Friend’s Pass from their platform’s store. Cross-play allows players on different supported platforms to play together.
- Link EA Accounts. For online play, both players need a platform account and an EA Account linked to it.
- Add each other in the EA Friends List. Use the in-game friends list to find and add your friend. The invitee should have Split Fiction running and be signed in to EA to receive a cross-play invitation.
- Check cross-play invitation permissions. If you are playing on console, open Options → Privacy Settings in the game and make sure cross-play invitations are enabled. Xbox players may also need to check account privacy settings. For child accounts, confirm that online cross-play is permitted by the account’s privacy settings.
- Meet the online requirements. Both players need an internet connection. EA Help says console players need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass for online play; check the relevant platform’s current membership requirements.
- Invite and accept in-game. Send the invitation through the EA Friends List and have your friend accept it. One owner can play with different friends, but only one friend joins at a time.
EA describes the full-game arrangement this way: “One user must own the full game in order for the co-op player to play the full game.” The Friend’s Pass player joins the owner’s online co-op session; the pass is not a way to play the entire game alone for free. It also includes a demo of the opening portion for players who want to try it before buying. EA Help describes the first two levels, while EA’s FAQ says the first few levels; progress carries over if the player later buys the full game. See EA’s online play help and Friend’s Pass FAQ.
How to play local co-op
For couch co-op, start the game on one system and connect two inputs. EA says local play can work without an internet connection or an EA Account. On PC, the supported arrangement described by EA is one controller plus keyboard and mouse; use two controllers if that better suits your setup.

On Switch 2, GameShare is a distinct local-wireless route: a Switch 2 owner can share the game with another Switch 2 or original Switch. It is not the same as online cross-play or Friend’s Pass. EA’s Switch 2 features page explains the GameShare option.
Continue a save or choose a level
For online sessions, the host can start a new game, continue the most recent save, or use Chapter Select to choose a level already reached. The host’s save determines where the session begins. If the owner later plays with a different friend, the session does not automatically restart.

If the invitation or game does not work
- Your friend cannot join: Confirm that the owner has the full game, the partner has Friend’s Pass installed, both players are online, and both EA Accounts are linked to their platform accounts.
- A cross-platform invitation is missing: Add each other through the EA Friends List, enable cross-play invitations in the game or relevant privacy settings, and keep the game open with the invitee signed in to EA.
- A child account cannot accept an invitation: Review its platform privacy settings and allow online cross-play.
- The full game keeps opening as Friend’s Pass after purchase: EA Help recommends restarting or power-cycling the platform. If you own a physical copy, make sure the disc is inserted.
