What happened to the Dragon Ball mobile game announcement?
The original headline, “A Dragon Ball-themed MOBA is Headed to Mobile Devices,” described the 2024 announcement of DRAGON BALL PROJECT: Multi. Bandai Namco later revealed the official title, DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA, on June 5, 2025. The game is no longer merely headed to mobile: Google Cloud announced its worldwide launch on September 10, 2025. How does Gekishin Squadra play?
It is a four-versus-four team battle. Players fight through enemy territory and compete to capture the Dragon Ball; the official beta announcement described the objective as: “Defeat the enemy team in a 4 versus 4 clash and capture their Dragon Ball!” The official materials also call it a battle arena game and a “Super Team Battle.” While the original announcement categorized the project as “Action,” the available descriptions support a team-based arena format rather than requiring a narrower genre label. The August 2024 open-beta announcement gives the stated match objective.
Where can you play it?
The September 2025 global launch announcement lists iOS, Android, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The earlier 2024 beta was narrower: it ran on the App Store, Google Play, and Steam in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In Germany and South Korea, beta testing was limited to the App Store and Google Play. Those beta restrictions describe the 2024 test, not the later global launch. The launch announcement also says the game supports nine languages; it does not enumerate them in the cited summary. The launch platform and language details and the beta’s region and platform details distinguish the two release phases.

Is Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra free?
Yes. Bandai Namco’s official June 2025 title announcement describes DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA as free to play. That establishes the price of entry, but the cited announcements do not specify in-game purchases or other monetization mechanics, so they are not enough to characterize those details. Bandai Namco’s title announcement states the free-to-play model.
