Subway Surfers and Minecraft parkour are recognizable examples, but there is no reliable ranking showing which games appear most often across everyone’s For You feed. These eight examples are better read as a guide to the format than as a measured top-eight list.
What are TikTok background-game videos?
They are split-screen or layered short videos: a creator’s main material—such as a narrated story, podcast excerpt, commentary, or tutorial—shares the screen with gameplay that keeps moving. The game footage may have little or no connection to what the creator is saying. Its continuous motion gives the viewer another visual track to follow, but available sources do not establish that it reliably improves attention or retention.
The examples below come from creator guides and editing-tool catalogs, not a representative survey of TikTok feeds. The first few are specifically named in creator guides; later entries include options listed by tools, which documents availability rather than how frequently people post them.
Eight games and gameplay styles used as backgrounds
-
Subway Surfers
The bright, fast endless runner is one of the most recognizable examples associated with this split-screen style. Its character runs, jumps, and dodges through a continuous course, making the footage easy to follow without needing the viewer to know a plot. It is directly named in recent creator guides, but that does not prove it is the most-used background on TikTok.

-
Minecraft parkour
This means obstacle-course footage—jumping between blocks and trying to complete a route—not Minecraft building in general. The repeated jumps and clear course give the clip an ongoing sense of progress. Creator guides identify parkour specifically as a background format.
-
GTA V driving and stunts
Driving or stunt clips from Grand Theft Auto V are a more accurate description than treating all GTA footage as interchangeable. A car weaving through traffic or attempting a stunt supplies movement and changing scenery while the main video plays. A recent creator guide names this kind of GTA gameplay among the examples.

Roblox gameplay
Roblox is a platform with many different experiences, so the label covers a wide range of footage rather than one game mode. One creator guide specifically mentions horror gameplay as a possible background. The particular experience matters: “Roblox” alone does not tell you whether the clip is a chase, obstacle course, or something else.
-
Temple Run
Like Subway Surfers, Temple Run is an endless-runner option: the player moves through a continuous course while avoiding obstacles. Creator-tool pages name it as a background choice. Its inclusion is an example, not evidence of a measured place in a TikTok popularity ranking.

Fortnite gameplay
Fortnite appears in one creator tool’s selectable background catalog. That confirms it is offered as an option by that tool; it does not show that Fortnite footage is common across organic TikTok posts or identify a particular Fortnite mode.
-
Free Fire gameplay
Free Fire is also listed in a creator tool’s background catalog. As with Fortnite, the listing shows catalog availability, not how often the footage appears on viewers’ feeds. The broad label should not be mistaken for a specific clip style.

Racing-game footage
Racing is a gameplay category rather than one named title. A split-screen tool cites racing footage as a background option; depending on the game, it can show laps, overtakes, or stunts. This is a useful description when the video features driving but does not identify a particular game.
Why these clips can look alike without being the same game
The common thread is steady, legible motion—not a single title. Endless runners such as Subway Surfers and Temple Run keep a character moving through a course; Minecraft parkour makes each jump a small obstacle; driving and racing footage shifts the scenery and action; Roblox can vary widely by experience. These are visual distinctions, not proof that one format consistently performs better than another.

TikTok said gaming content received over 3 trillion views globally in 2022, citing the company’s internal data for January through December of that year. That figure is about gaming content overall; it does not count split-screen background clips, identify these games, or measure how many For You feeds show them. TikTok’s 2023 gaming report also describes the platform’s broader relationship with gaming culture.
Creator guides and editing-tool catalogs can show which examples creators discuss or which backgrounds a tool offers. They cannot establish a representative ranking of TikTok posts. So if Subway Surfers seems to be on your FYP constantly, that is a fair description of your feed—not evidence that it is nearly universal.
