To unlock the West Path in Blue Prince, draft the Utility Closet and Garage in the same run, place the Garage in the far-left column, switch on its circuit in the Utility Closet, then open the Garage door and unlatch the West Gate from outside.
What you need in the same run
You need both the Utility Closet and the Garage to appear during the same run. If either room has not appeared, you cannot complete this route yet. Draft the Garage in the far-left, westmost column of the house map; this placement connects it to the exterior route you need.
How to open the West Gate
- Draft the Utility Closet and Garage. Make sure both are in the current run, with the Garage in the westmost column.
- Turn on Garage power. In the Utility Closet, use the breaker box to switch on the Garage circuit.
- Open the Garage door. Return to the Garage and press its door control. GamesRadar+ identifies it as the black button immediately to the left of the entrance: how to open the Blue Prince garage.
- Reach the rear of the gate. Exit through the Garage, follow the path south, cross the stream, and take the left fork. Interact with the West Gate’s latch from its back side. The SuperCheats West Gate walkthrough describes the same route.
What the West Gate unlocks
Unlatching the gate permanently opens access to the West Path and its Outer Room area in later runs. It does not guarantee a particular Outer Room. The stream crossing also is not a ready-made shortcut into the mansion on a new run: GamesRadar+ reports that the plank is not in place at the start of a run. A Steam Community guide by UberDrive also corroborates the West Gate route and gives examples of Outer Rooms.

If the route is not working
- The Garage door control does nothing: return to the Utility Closet and check that the Garage circuit is on.
- The Garage does not lead to the needed exterior route: check that it was drafted in the far-left, westmost column.
- You cannot complete the route this run: confirm that both the Utility Closet and Garage have appeared. They must be available in the same run.
- You expected a shortcut across the stream on later runs: the permanent unlock is access to the West Path and Outer Room area; the plank is not present at the start of a run.
