A PS3 revival was reported in October 2026, but it is described as an experimental alpha—not a dependable or EA-supported service. No equivalent Xbox 360 route is established.
What happened to Bad Company 2’s online servers?
EA’s Online Service Shutdown list records the game’s online-service retirement on December 8, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. That ended EA’s official multiplayer service; it did not, by itself, mean the offline campaign stopped working.
EA’s storefront delisting began April 28, 2023, according to its shutdown announcement. Delisting and server retirement are separate: the first concerns purchasing the game through a storefront, while the second concerns access to EA’s online services.
Which platforms can still play online?

PC: Project Rome is the clearest community option
Project Rome documentation describes a community project that emulates some of EA’s server functions and enables private or community server hosting. It is separate from EA, so using it is not the same as reconnecting to EA’s retired servers.

Project Rome is the clearest post-shutdown route for PC players, but it depends on the community service, compatible game access, and current setup guidance. The project’s availability and compatibility may change; the existence of its documentation does not guarantee that servers are populated or that a particular installation will work. The Steam support page for the game links to technical support and community discussions, including post-shutdown guidance.
PS3: a reported revival is still experimental
A community post dated October 2, 2026, reported a restored PS3 server in an alpha state, accessed through a custom DNS address. The report is preliminary and is not an EA announcement or a validated restoration. See the PS3 restoration report for the claim and check current community instructions before changing network settings. Treat access, stability, and instructions as subject to change.

Xbox 360: no supported online route is established
EA’s Xbox 360 service ended on December 8, 2023. No corroborated community restoration comparable to the PC Project Rome service or the preliminary PS3 report is established here, so do not count on Xbox 360 multiplayer being available.

The campaign is separate from EA’s online services. EA’s shutdown guidance notes that some games may remain playable offline after online services end; the shutdown listing does not say that Bad Company 2’s single-player campaign was disabled. Multiplayer server retirement should not be read as a campaign shutdown.
