The commonly reported minimum is three players for the Maxis path and four for the Richtofen path. Some opening steps can be done solo, but that is not the same as finishing the quest.
How many players does each Buried Easter egg path need?
Buried’s main quest has two separate paths: Maxis and Richtofen. The player-count requirement depends on which one your group chooses.

- Maxis: Three players is the commonly reported minimum.
- Richtofen: Four players is the commonly reported minimum.
These counts come from specialist guides and community reporting, not an official Treyarch or Activision player-count specification. A community wiki describes full completion as requiring four players on either side, while community discussion reports that the Maxis path can be completed with three. That difference is why the Maxis figure is best treated as commonly reported rather than officially confirmed.
Can two players complete any of the steps?
Some early steps on both paths are reported as soloable, so a two-player group may be able to make progress through part of the quest. But those opening steps do not establish that two players can complete the entire Easter egg. The available guides do not support two players as enough for full completion on either path.

What to do if you only have two players
If your goal is to finish the full Mined Games quest, recruit another player for the Maxis route or two more for the Richtofen route. If you stay as a duo, you can attempt the opening steps, but do not count on completing the full quest together based on the commonly reported requirements.
