Dispatch’s Automatic-Fail Checks Are Frustrating Players—Here’s What’s Known

Some Dispatch players say certain checks automatically fail when a hero’s stat is too high. The complaint is real, but the exact rules and current status are not confirmed by official sources.

In AdHoc Studio’s Dispatch, players assign heroes to emergencies, so a check that reportedly fails a dispatch when a hero’s stat is too high can feel like a reversal of the usual “stronger is better” logic. A November 2025 Steam discussion captures that frustration, but it does not establish how often the checks occur, whether every player encounters them, or what the developers intended.

What players mean by “automatic fail”

Dispatch is a single-player superhero workplace comedy built around managing a roster of heroes and sending them to emergencies, alongside office politics and relationships. Steam lists its release date as October 22, 2025. Steam’s game listing describes that premise.

The complaint concerns checks that players say can fail a dispatch when a character’s stat is too high. A player in a November 2025 Steam discussion described it as the “Always fail if stats too high” mechanic. That wording comes from players; it has not been verified as an official in-game label.

Why the checks can feel unfair

The reported surprise is a mismatch between expectation and outcome: players develop heroes and expect higher stats to improve their odds, then encounter a check where a high stat reportedly triggers failure. One poster said the rule “comes out of nowhere, and you do need to build for it.” For players who have already formed preferred pairs or synergy teams, adapting can mean changing how they assign heroes or built their roster.

Steam user Samz wrote on November 5, 2025: “The ‘Always fail if stats too high’ mechanic is awful, especially being introduced so late.” That is one player’s opinion, not a consensus or a confirmed account of the developers’ design rationale. Other replies in the same thread describe surprise and difficulty, but player reports do not show that every mission or roster is affected. Read the Steam discussion.

What is confirmed—and what is not

  • Confirmed as a player complaint: Steam users report dispatch checks where a stat being too high can cause failure, and some object to learning about the rule late.
  • Not established: The available official material does not document the exact thresholds, which dispatches use the checks, or whether the behavior is intended or a bug.
  • No confirmed fix: AdHoc Studio publishes official patch notes, but the available notes do not confirm a change to these specific checks. A mention of fixes involving hero-stat boosts or save data is not proof that this mechanic was revised. Check AdHoc Studio’s Dispatch patch notes.

Steam’s search-result snapshot in 2026 showed 108,648 English reviews and 97% positive overall. That volatile, game-wide rating is not evidence of how players feel specifically about automatic-fail checks. Steam’s listing.

What to do if a dispatch fails this way

If you suspect a high-stat check, treat the Steam reports as a warning to pay attention to the requirements shown for the individual dispatch rather than assuming the strongest available hero is always the safest choice. The discussion supports that practical caution, but does not provide verified thresholds or a universal workaround; it cannot guarantee that swapping heroes will resolve a particular failure.

For a gameplay or technical issue, Steam’s Dispatch support page lists [email protected]. The listing identifies this contact for support; it does not establish that email as the channel for design feedback. Dispatch on Steam.
