Reach the bench in Sinner’s Road
Sinner’s Road is reached from Greymoor. Both entrances listed by the Hollow Knight Wiki require Cling Grip; Gamer Guides places the area above Greymoor’s Halfway House.
Look for Shakra and the bench beside her. Finding it is only the first part of the unlock: the bench’s mechanism needs a separate repair before it will rise.
Pay the fee shown in your game
Interact with the bench and pay the amount it requests. Published guides disagree on the toll: the Hollow Knight Wiki lists 40 Rosaries, while walkthroughs from Game8, Shacknews, and Gamer Guides report 60. The available sources do not establish which game version accounts for the difference, so use the in-game prompt rather than relying on either number.

Repair the stuck bench mechanism
- Search above or to the left of the bench room. Climb the wall and look near the ceiling for a concealed breakable wall.
- Break through and follow the hidden route. The opening leads into a platforming section. Continue until you reach the mechanism’s gears.
- Destroy the vines binding the gears. Clearing them frees the mechanism and lets the bench rise.
- Return to the bench and sit on it. Rest there to activate its checkpoint.
If the bench still will not rise
- Confirm that you paid the fee requested at the bench; paying alone does not complete the repair.
- Search the upper and left sides of the room for the breakable wall if the hidden route is not obvious.
- Continue through the platforming route until you reach the gears, then clear the vines before returning.
